This month's "old books" competition starts today and will close on the 30th October.
Each entry must be an image - in any medium, e.g. a picture of a sculpture, a photo-manipulation, a drawing, a video of interpretative dance

, a 3D render, whatever you like.
Since we're coming up to Halloween, let's have something sinister.
Try to evoke
fear or
a sense of the ancient, of
ancient powers biding their time or even
unleashed.
The entries
must either feature old books, or must use at least one image that's marked as public domain on
www.fromoldbooks.org (or both of course). You must of course own the copyright on the image, and have a clear list of all stock items you used and their status (e.g. whether non-commercial, commercial, etc). You can submit entries you have already made, as well as new ones.
Adult themes and nudity are acceptable, as are young men in bare feet of course!
The decision of the judges will be final. No purchase necessary. No clothing necessary (but you may rattle your chain on the bars of the cage if you wish).
If you want advice on a work-in-progress, send me a note.
Prizes will be one or more of:
* A subscription to deviant
Art; if you already have a subscription, I'll extend it, or you can choose an alternative prize if you want;
* A certificate to hang on your wall, with your name in hand-written calligraphic writing;
* A pair of black socks.
If there are more than fifteen people who enter, I'll increase the prizes. So tell your friends!
In addition,
unless you say otherwise I will copy each entry onto the gallery at
[link] (you will keep full credit and get a link back either here to deviantArt or to your own Web site, or both, as you wish). Since fromoldbooks.org is a Google pagerank 8 Web page, this might give you some additional free publicity and can also help your own Web site's search engine ranking, if you care about such things.
If you want to let me have a higher-resolution image for the gallery than you have on da, that's OK too, let me know. Or I can link back to your own Web site for such things.
To enter, send a note to =
barefootliam (that's me) with the title "entry: ancient powers" and the full URL of your entry. I travel a lot, so don't be surprised if I take a week or so to reply.
*
You can see the
entries and winners from the August old books competition.

There are three choices...
(1) make a deviation that features a book somewhere in it
(2) make a deviation that uses one or more images marked as public domain on [link]
(3) do both in one deviation
Thanks for looking, and thanks for asking! Probably other people were confused too.
