oh moses you forgot the roses
between those chiseled lines
how our heavy bellies weigh
upon these hungry spines
you told us tales of flaming bush
and broke our golden calf
after those rules of course, oh god
i think i hear him laugh
the second time you still forgot
to etch the flowers in
to bind your law with beauty
and isn’t that the sin
well i think that joshua’s
prepared your epitaph
this time he’s carved a rose
not just an almond staff
