Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Well, I've been starting to recycle ever since. Some easy tips for people to help (and guess what? It's barely even hard to do!):

Tip #1: Go recycle at school or start an election thing with bottles, cans, metal, and paper!

Tip #2: Try taking a 1-5 minutes shower in cold water! You don't need hot water to wipe off the bacteria and stuff, all you need to do is scrub really good. Besides, the good part is it saves your water bill, saves water, and makes your hair softer!

Tip #3: Ask your parents or guardians if you can change at least some of your lightbulbs to florescent. (ppssstt, if they say no, I'd usually write a persuasive essay haha!)

Tip #4: Instead of riding with your mom or dad everyday to work or something, try riding the bus, walking, or carpooling. Or if a store is near you or the park, etc. you can take a nice jog or something.

Tip #5: Don't use all lights at once! Try turning things off once in awhile, especially at day!

Tip #6: If you want wind on a windy day, then just open all windows. If it doesn't help, then you can try turning on at least 1 fan.

Tip #7: Plant, plant, plant those flowers or trees or anything!

Hopefully, everyone does this and if you have any questions, go to my page and I'll try and answer them! :D I haven't really done all these, but I'm putting it up because I saw it in magazines and everything. Alot of people have helped too! Like the people in TFK for example!

All Alone- Maybe 911 Will Care

~PrimalDarkness:iconPrimalDarkness: reports, September 22, 2007
When asked if they would consider adopting a child, many people say, "Only if I could not have a child of my own." True, babies are adopted so frequently parents turn to other countries for them and there are even kidnappings where the baby is sold. However, kids over the age of four have a severely decreased chance of getting adopted, and the number goes down each year.

These kids don't just disappear. They go from home to home, are usually separated from their siblings, and can get lost in the system. The group homes, perhaps more commonly known as orphanages, can be anything from a foster home where someone has opened their home to a few kids, to a larger building stuffed to the breaking point with bunk beds and the people running it only know who is there through paperwork.

When these kids turn eighteen they are out. Many go into the military, as there are few options open. Think for a moment though, that you're in college. No going home on the weekends to get your laundry done, no care packages, nothing. When you're not living in the dorm you're in an apartment, trying to work and pay rent.

Now to work... when asked for an emergency contact, most can only write 911. As there is no one they can turn to. So think for a second about what you want. Do you want to have a baby, add another life to the vast existing population, or would you rather adopt a child- and their siblings with any luck- and give that child the life you would dream for your own?

If you died and your kids were left to strangers, wouldn't you want someone to care for them? Why is it any different this way? I'm not even beginning to say these kids are a charity case to be pitied. I'm just saying that we are a society. A community. Most religions say we are all family.

Well there are family members, daughters and sons, being forgotten, and I know it's time to take notice.

I know you didn't mean to, but you just made every would-be-mother feel insanely guilty. I want my own children because I've always dreamed of being a mother and having the experience. Granted, our population is big enough and we probably shouldn't all be adding to it so regularly, but I believe that I deserve the opportunity to experience motherhood. I know those kids out there need someone to love them and I'm hoping one day to become a foster parent, but not everyone out there wanting their own kids is doing it to spite the adoptive system. (Which is kind of how you made it sound.) I think it would be beneficial to our society if more families adopted, but you can't expect women to give up their rights to pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. I feel bad for those kids, I really do... It's unfortunate that they're in that situation. I hope maybe one day I can open up my home for foster kids and maybe fight to keep siblings together... besides that, I can always try to adopt some of the ones I get in because I agree with you that siblings need to stay together. If my adopting the family would do that, then I would. However, I need to have at least one of my own to be content with my life.

I'm not saying boo to would-be mothers. Arguing is probably pointless here... so... if you're a would-be mom i'm not insulting you... I just... experiences in my life have made me believe that we are not who we are by traditional things like marriage, grades, beauty, or having a baby. I am me because of what I do and say, and i'd rather have a child in my home that needed me, rather than a kid to validate me. I'm have existed 20 years and have saved acres of rainforest, hundreds of animals, fed hundreds of hungry children, fought against aids, domestic violence, and child abuse. I have fought many battles for my friends and changed many people's lives... i'm validated on my own.

I have to agree with Primal... just because you adopt means you're missing out on motherhood? How stupid is that? "You don't have my blood so you're not really my child" ewwwwwwww! This world is way too overpopulated. Why not save someone?

Cheers!

My friend Tiffanie is pregnant. I'm happy for her! She was considering adoption, later, once she is financial secure but her "bf" is a slob so... baby! I call it GB :)

I'm in NO way against her! I'm proud! But if she adopted I'd be even happier for her. Never would it be a "so you had to adopt?" come oooon, you'e saving a life!! So cheers to you for this news!

It's not about blood, it's about becoming pregnant and giving birth and experiencing that part that would be missed out on if choosing to adopt. I'm not trying to argue the adoption option, I'm only saying that it's not fair to say that women who want their own children should adopt instead. Everyone is entitled to what they want and if they have the ability to get it, then let them. If I have the ability to bear children, then I will instead of adopting, although that does not mean I won't end up adopting anyway. I just want to experience being pregnant and giving birth. Adoption is a necessity for this society to function because there are so many children out there without homes, but it's not like my having my own child will be adding to that crisis if I can give my own a good home. It'd be different if I were to have a kid and then throw it into the government's care.

The other problem with adopting is how much of a hassle and expensive it is. That's the reason a lot of people won't do it. Not because they dont have room in their lives, or enough love and concern for adopted children, because they might. But it's hard and expensive, and most people don't want the trouble.

My family adopted a twelve year old girl. She's as much a part of our family as blood. She even, scarily enough, looks enough like us that when we told people we had adopted a young girl, they thought it was my other blood-kin sister who was adopted. Now, I don't make those kind of inferences unless speaking about that situation. Both of them are my sisters, and I see no difference.

It also took us a year to get her adopted, and ridiculous amounts of money. Not only the cost of adoption, but Visas, international plane tickets, gifts to Russian officials to make the process smoother, a year of worry, heartache, longing, love, letters saying yes, letters saying no, and finally, the letter that begged us to come and get her, all culminated in bringing home a new member of our family, one we love and cherish no less for being born to a Russian mother.

But can most people afford that kind of committment and money? My father makes over a hundred thousand a year, so yes, we could, but many people can't. And a lot of people don't like older kids because they want children who love them, and they're not sure if they can get that from an older child.

I'm just giving reasons here that people don't adopt more. I am fully in support of adoption, thank you. I love my sister and when we heard the adoption had gone through, we were so unbelievably happy. My uncle and his wife gave birth to one baby, and then adopted two more boys. So go adoption and adopting parents. It's a great thing, a great feeling, it's just inaccessible to a lot of people, unfortunately.

On a final note, because I really don't feel like fighting my own friends on this issue. Yes, it's hard. Yes, it's expensive. But it could mean the difference of life or death to a child in need. That, to me at least, is worth fighting for.
