MABON & FEATURE

~MoonDaughters:iconMoonDaughters: reports, September 23, 2007
We celebrate Mabon (in the North hemisphere) or Ostara (if we live in the South hemisphere).

Mabon/ Autumn Equinox

During the Autumn Equinox Mabon is celebrated. This celebración of celtic origins also receives the name of “Winter Fidding” , “Alban Elfed“, “Last Harvest” and “Birth of the Winter“.
Mabón is the the Welsh God of fertility and in his festivity we celebrate the force of the Renaissance and the Creation of the Mother Earth.
The Autumn Equinox makes that night and day during the same time and is time to mull over the imminent dark that completes the natural cycle that the paganism takes as measurement of real and espiritual time.
In this time we also shown our grateful for the diminution of the light of the Sun, while the last harvests of the year.
Neopaganism celebrates the aging of the Goddess, that becomes to Old Mother, and his spouse, the God, that ges ready for Death…and rebirth.
In this Sabbath is suitable to wear our finest clothes and to celebrate it in style.
It´s time to share with the family because we are meeting ready for the end of the year, in Samhain.
This is a time of introspección too, because we enter in a period of rest, relax and musing.
In Lammas, when harvest began, the God shedded his blood on the Earth and he was retired to the underground worlds.
In the Autumn Equinox, he returns to take the Goddess and bring her to the dephts from he cames.
Since this moment , plants stop to give fruits and the Earth is ready to the ardes season of the year, the Winter.
The pagan celebrate the end of the divinity time- waiting their reborn, fullfilling in that way the universal nature cycle- in the autumn equinox.
Once again we be grateful in this time for the equality of day and night.
At this key time in the year we prepare us to the culminación of the year cycle and the rebirth of the knowledge and the life.
We can decorate our altar with a white candle and a black one, symbolizing the natural balance of the year.
We celebrate too different kind of cycles: the pagan who have cultivate a magic garden have just finíshed
To harvest the last fruits of Summer.
Others will harvest the practical, magical and spiritual profits of the previos year.
Many pagans remeber the harvest elaborating some fecundity symbols, like the wheat dolls. These decorative figures doned with wheat spikes where made originally to capture the spirit of harvest when he jumped of blow in the last cutted wheat spike.
In fact, it´said that the word doll - “dolly” - is a possible corruption of the word “Idol” in english language.

This “doll” was taken with great ceremony and returned to the farm, to kepí it in safe place, until next year harvest appears and begin to grow.

Aspect of the Divinities: For some Traditions, the Goddess Widow cries for his fallen spouse, that has been sacrificed to give the life to the Earth. For the tradition of witchcraft that my family practices, the Goddess expresses its power through the wisdom and its side more primitive and powerful: the cervine power of the nature.

Deities: Mabón, Thor, Isis, Freya, Hermes, Deméter, Perséfone, Hades, Baco and all Goddesses Mothers.

Grass, flowers and incenses: Hazelnuts, maize, acorns, rivet, wheat, cones of pine, mirra, benzoin, salvia, thistle, madreselva, pasionaria, ferns, tobacco, sell of salomón
