FEATURES AND TIPS:
If you tried to count up the number of male stockers vs the number of female stockers on dA you'd be blown away. There is only a handful of male model stock available but thankfully - the greater portion of it is AWESOME. These boys really know what they're doing.
Switching from action to love-scenes with ease and some don't even mind dressing in drag on occassion. What more could you ask for? Well, that's easy. You could just ask for MORE in general

We love the boys that aren't afraid to pose for us, and we try to encourage more to come out of the woodworks and try their hand at being a male stock model.
So in this feature - I take my hat off to those good ol' blokes that don't mind strutting their stuff and being generally awesome for the mass of artists on dA!
TIPS FOR MALE MODEL STOCKERS:
Try a bit of everything. You may love pretending to be the next Bruce Willis in Die Hard but that's not all there is to being a male stocker. Don't be afraid to shake things up a bit. You can do anything from being your average joe, to being that guy in the RomComs and Jane Austin recreations that all the girls swoon over.
"Oh Mr.Darcy... *giggle*"
Ask a friend. If you are a guy and don't like posing, or if you're a girl that wants some Y chromosomes in your gallery then ask some of your male friends. They may give you a strange look at first but once you put the 'For the love of art!' spin on the request they tend to soften up a bit
Liken the photoshoot to a movie. You don't need to be an award-winning actor to do stock. Immitation is a wonderful artform in itself and when you have a movie to work from its easy as pie. Get a character in mind, or in your model's mind, and tell them to act it out. Pre-made characters make the whole shoot so much easier.
Regular Clothes vs Costume. The girls love to dress up in whatever suits their fancy but guys, that doesn't mean you have to as well. Though variety in your clothes doesn't hurt. Whether you want to try a different timeline, or a different country, the possibilities are endless when it comes to clothing.
Aversion to make-up. Most guys have it. For some reason they think its a direct attack at their masculinity. It isn't needed in general stock (in fact, a lot of manippers prefer no make-up) but when you have a specific character in mind it can come in handy. Camoflage streaked faces, blood smattered zombies, or even if you want to try your hand at being the next Pricilla: Queen of the Desert - make-up doesn't have to kill the testosterone.
Take a note from the girls. I don't mean dressing up in skirts and corsets (though I'm not opposed to it

). I mean posing, creating characters, and trying your hand at some of the themes the girls have done. Blindfolds, mirrors, picture frames, umbrellas... the endless supply of inspiration is right at your fingertips. If you can alter a current theme to fit your style - all the better.
Your interests. You could be a whiz-bang sports star, be mad about cars, have a hobby in making things... whatever it is you're interested in outside of stock - try utilizing it IN your stock. Its like combining the two best things on Earth
*cough... ahem*
Pose. Don't. just. stand there! Too often I see photos of people just standing there, over and over, with blank looks on their faces. Though that stuff IS useful don't forget the fine art of being creative. Spice it up. Use your furniture to help yourself contort into strange, new, back-breaking positions. Grab a friend. Make THEM do it.
You pay for the chiro bills
Nudity. I don't want to sound like a perv but nude male stock isn't all that common. If you are comfortable enough with your body, you're over 18, and you don't mind plastering pictures of your pee-pee on the internet then why not consider it? Just remember - we don't JUST want to see your pee-pee. Traditional artists want the full picture. Muscles in men are hard to draw (even if you don't have them!

) and the lines and contours of a male body are best seen in the FULL. So if you plan on stripping down - push the camera back a bit further and show us the entire package.
FEATURED STOCKER:
A new little section to showcase a particular stocker each week. Its not just because I LOVE their stock - but because of how useful it can be and just how generally amazing it is! You will be kicking yourself if you don't take a few moments to check them out!
This week:

=
resurgere
=
resurgere has been open since back in 2003. Supply artists with amazing, super-quality stock. Filled to the brim with magazine quality stock packs from a number of artists =

FEATURED STOCK CLUB:
I don't like to play favourites with clubs but sometimes there's one that stands out that you've really got to check out.
This week:

*
help-the-stockers gets the honours!
*
help-the-stockers started from one idea... people donating subscriptions to stockers and resourcers that needed them. Then it became a listing for stockers that accepted donations towards their stock funds (to help purchase costumes, better equipment, and more). Since then it has mutated (in a good way

) to list Stocker-held contests, stock-related clubs, offer INCENTIVES to people that donate and much much more.
If you want to help out your friendly, neighbourhood stockers, OR if you are a stocker in need of a helping hand or some extra promotion - drop by and see what the fuss is about.
UNRESTRICTED FEATURE:
There is a buzz in the stock gallery - who allows prints? Who allows off-site use? Should I let people use my stock in advertisements?
Well that is why this AWESOME club was started.
Whether you want to find stock that is unrestricted, you are a stocker that wants your whole gallery to be unrestricted, or if you just want some parts of it listed, then you've got yourself a goldmine right here.
Here are a few of the awesome unrestricted stocks you can find in the club and from members of the club.
Don't forget to check out the Licence Agreement to see all the cool stuff you can do with Unrestricted Stock!
FOCUS ON THE FORUMS!:
The StockArt forums are located here: StockArt Forums
A place for stockers to promote their contests, artists to request specific stock, ask for help finding stock, discuss stockart in general and much more! We go a little silly sometimes but don't let that scare you off! Just remember what we're about - STOCK!!
Does model stock "outshine" other stock categories?: by =
pendlestock. Its obvious to most deviants that model stockers DO get a lot of attention, and most of them get more attention than a lot of the objects/nature/places stockers on dA. So our dear =
pendlestock has given a few names of our underappreciated non-model stockers to check out as well as asking YOUR opinion on the matter.
Pop Quiz: Miscats: by ^
Hanratty-Stock.
FAQ #809: Why was my stock image removed? Know it, Love It, Be ONE with it. Alas, its a FAQ that isn't very well known by a fair amount of stockers on dA - especially the newbies that are just starting up. So the question is - do you know a stock miscat when you see it? Do you report stock that is out of place or not following the quality guidelines in the FAQ? And why do you do it?
MONTHLY STOCK PROJECT:
Whoever you are, whatever kind of resource you upload - check out

and join in on the monthly challenges to both Stockers and general Resourcers. Get featured in the Monthly Newsletter, find inspiration in a simple phrase or theme and join in with other stockers in a throw-together collaboration!
This month's challenge topic was suggested by ^
Hanratty-Stock (thank you, Fifi). 'What is this awesome
2 challenge?' I hear you ask?
Surreal, baby!! That's right. Everyone is so gosh-darned obsessed with Surrealism lately why NOT make a challenge about it? Its the challenge dreams are made of.
Literally.
September Challenge closes September 30!!
