Introducing a new group! *
DeviantsForTheCure is a place to share your stories about cancers of all kinds, and to share your art too! If you have any artwork using the colors for that months awareness, send the link to your deviation to us in a note titled Submit and well add it in to our account.
What is Cancer?
Cancer happens when cells in your body become abnormal and start dividing out of control. Regardless of where the cancer may start, it can invade nearby tissues and eventually spread through the entire body.
What causes cancer?
The worst part about cancer is that no one knows entirely what causes the disease. Heredity has a part in it: if your mom or grandparents or anyone else in the family had cancer it raises your risk for the disease by almost 4 times. Sometimes cancer starts with no visible reasons. Smoking can be a cause for lung cancer, but people who never smoke can get it too. Other causes can include radiation, chemicals, and infectious agents can assist in cancers spread.
What cures cancer?
Success happens with a lot of different methods in cancer. Surgery and chemotherapy helps in some cases. Radiation treatments are available for cases of cancer, as are hormone therapies and individualized therapy would be prescribed by a doctor in attempt to stop the cancer and put it into remission.
The bottom line on cancer at the moment is that we dont know all the reasons why cancer is present, nor do we have a sure fire way to cure it. Early detection helps, certainly. Which is why *
DeviantsForTheCure is trying to raise awareness of the disease. The more you know, the better.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Did you know that in 2000 there were 6,734 cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed in the United Kingdom? In 2004 in the United States it is estimated that there was 25,500 cases. Turns out that 1 in 50 women will get ovarian cancer. Over half of these women will die from the disease. There is currently no reliable method to detect ovarian cancer.
Symptoms: pain in the abdomen, feeling bloated, trouble urinating, fatigue, weight loss. These are all symptoms of other diseases as well, which accounts for how hard it is to diagnose this cancer in time for the cure.

So in other words, ovarian cancer... it's bad, it's silent, and you may not know you have it until it's too late. Ladies and Gentlemen: do your part on this! Be Aware of it, if you or a loved one has worries about this type of Cancer, get them to a doctor. It may save a life! If anyone is interested in sporting a ribbon for this month the color is Teal. Lets get the word out there, everyone!
October will be Breast Cancer Awareness Month so get that artwork coming!
Devious Comments
