Important Art Facts

=dot-Silver:icondot-Silver: reports, September 26, 2007
There are some pretty important facts about creating art work, for those that have been creating it for a long time will know about these, but for the artists that are just beginning, this may be a crucial reading. So let's get started.

Dimensions
Dimensions is the size of the canvas you're going to be working on, usually in the art world this is measured in pixels, the dimension of the work is rather important, for example, if you're creating a 3D Abstract art piece, you wouldn't usually find them smaller than 700x700. Dimensions like these go in width x height.

Shape
Obviously in the art world, shapes would be rectangular. Think about the shape you're going to do, square or rectangle? Or maybe something different using a transparent background.

Composition
This may be one of the most important factors of your art work. The composition is the plan, placement (or arrangement) of elements in your work. Think of it as if you were a chef cooking at a very posh restaurant, you would plan and arrange the meals to look artistic (or maybe pretty, etc.) to impress the customers.

It's exactly the same with art work, plan and arrange the elements of your art work carefully to give an interesting view which would make the viewer want to lean in that bit closer.

Important details
What are the most important details of your artwork and where are they placed?

Depth
Depth is the colour depth or number of bits used determining the range of colours. It's also a factor of how far the object is from the viewer, for example, creating a 3D Abstract art piece, how far is the back of the render from the front? Also know as perspective.

Colours
Colour in your art piece is vital, it can reflect the mood of the work to the viewer and also distinguishes elements from others. Monotone, which means it's all pretty much one tone of colour, is not a great idea, pieces look more interesting when they have different colours, but not a huge amount.

Contrast
Contrast is the difference in light and colour between parts of an image.

The Message
Most art works send a message to the viewer, hence why it's also called Visual Communication. Think of it like an advertisement/poster, they send a message visually to you instead of someone telling you about their product, service etc.

You need to make your message clear so the viewers can understand what you were trying to achieve or convey.

Well that's about it, I hope this helps some artists into their creation of art work.
