Angelles LaVeau

Creole Voo Doo Princess
`angelles is by far one of my favourite artists here on dA. There are many reasons, the first of which should be her art - but I'll get to that later! One of the main reasons Angelles stands out, on top of her talent, is the fact that it is so clear that she's a good, kind-of decent person. Take a look at her responses to comments and messages. One of my first exchanges with her was via her piece featuring model Yasmeen Ghauri:

The Black Rain
I had corrected something in her artist's comments, unsure how she'd respond. She was quite affable and from there started a friendly chat. In general, I've noticed that, not only does she take the time to reply reasonably often, she always comes off as someone who really read what the other person was saying and seems to actually care about her response - to care about the other artists. In line with that, Angelles does regular features of a pretty wide range of artists and goes out of her way to give other artists exposure too (i.e.,Sepia Week at
[link] ). She involves herself even more in the community by helping to host contests like the recently concluded Oracle of Delphi Contest at
[link] , which are judged fairly and display worthy winners, and she also participates in contests to support groups and causes she believes in. And more? She makes a huge effort to keep building up stock for other artists to work with as well, even going on outings specifically hoping to get shots for stock images at her stock account *
AngellesFleshStock.

Now about her talent... On her myspace account at
[link] , she says that she's been painting since she "was old enough to hold a crayon and deface the walls of [her] childhood home." That early passion, combined with the level of commitment it must have taken to continue with painting over all these years, is evident in her current work.

Calista - Seduction
A multi media artist who also also sculpts and writes, her work on dA varies from traditional media, to digital paintings, and photomanipulations.

The Cost Was So Much More... (digital painting)
In her visual art here on dA, you can see a distinct style. Yes, there is a high level of realism, but never simply realism for the sake of realism. It's never realism that merely tries to mimic what a basic photograph can do. She uses real elements, like natural proportions and expressions, and then twists them to suit her muse and style.

My Mother
On a personal note, I only met Angelles online maybe a few months ago. Through her simple comments and such, she's been great at encouraging me as a newer artist who's still trying to learn the craft, as I also try to explore myself and my own style(s), and also as a (gasp) model of some sort. For her kind words and time, I am grateful.
