Once upon a time, not that long ago, critique was easy come by. Join dAmn or post in the forums and you could be sure to find someone willing to help you learn, give you another point of view, and generally give REAL critique. In recent months though, there seems to be a real lack of true critique. People dont seem to want to post critique even when out right asked to.
Favourites and Watches are great and sure they make you feel great about your work, but not at the expense of being told why. I logged on to dA a week or two ago to be greeted with 15 messages. I expected 15 journals to be awaiting my viewing, but I was wrong, I had only 2 journals to read. the other 13 were 12 favourites and a devwatch all from the same person. Great you may be thinking, wish that would happen to me etc. My problem is I dont know why that person liked my work so much. I am not able to learn or grow as a photographer because I am not being told what people like and dislike about my work! Sure I can critique my own work, but thats not the same as being told why other people like it!
I have to admit, I am also guilty of not leaving enough critique. This is because sometimes when you leave critique you get abuse for doing so and now I dont know who to critique and who not. So whats the solution? Well I dont know that, but I hope that this will help -

That young man with the long, auburn hair and the impudent face - that young man was not really a poet; but surely he was a poem.
