FEATURES AND TIPS:
Stock generally isn't seen as an artform - let alone something that can be sold as a print through the
"dA Prints Shop".
BUT it is! Both an artform
and available for purchase. This doesn't mean every stock image should be. After all, dA has quality guidelines in place to make sure what you are purchasing is worth it.
Set DPI, resolution, cropping and so on, are all factors in whether or not your print is approved and offered to the general public to hang on their walls.
For whatever reason, the features below AREN'T prints - but I, for one, would love to see them in the prints shop.
TIPS FOR STOCK PRINTS:
There ARE Stock Prints. Deny it all you can but there are already Stock Prints available. Check out our cozy little section of the prints store
"HERE"
They're more like... GUIDELINES. I had to put a Barbosa quote in here somewhere

The dA Prints store has guidelines for prints that go 'on the shelf'. If you want to find out more about that check the
"Prints Help Section". And don't forget to check out "
FAQ #576: Where can I find templates to help me size my images correctly for prints?" to get access to the templates for prints.
Qua-li-ty. You may love the pose you've got standing in front of your crinkled white sheet for a background... but do you really think people will buy it? If you want to submit a print think about whether or not someone would pay money for it. Save the poor prints team some time and submit your BEST work.
All Your Stock? Nay, I say! You may have the most fantastic stock in the WORLD but that doesn't mean you have to submit every single photo as a print. Choose your favourites and then wait for people to request the rest.
Request Print Button. Its a bugger of a thing, isn't it? Since stock can be downloaded you never know if the ' Print Requested' notification is genuine or if someone slipped and hit the wrong link. If you're unsure, think about whether the quality is good enough to sell, if your DPI is high enough, if the crop and bleed areas are all ok... and then give them what they want if all is good.
DPI. You're not going to get very far on 72DPI. That is what most 'easy/green mode' cameras are going to give you. DPI (Dots Per Inch) handles the clarity of your photo. 1000 DPI means it pin-points every single pixel of your photo. 72 DPI will pretty much kill your chances of having a nice, clear print and therefore it will get rejected faster than you can say 'Bollocks'. Shoot in RAW format if you have it, and if you're scanning - SET your DPI to a high number. 150 is BASIC. 300 is great. Even higher - even better.
FEATURED STOCKER:
A new little section to showcase a particular stocker each week. Its not just because I LOVE their stock - but because of how useful it can be and just how generally amazing it is! You will be kicking yourself if you don't take a few moments to check them out!
This week:

*
almudena-stock
A stock account I have LOVED since the beginning of time (Feb 2007). This lovely lassy from Germany doesn't just have gorgeous model stocks, her places and objects are just as superb. She runs circles around the classic nude models with her graceful poses and will blow you away with the amazing architecture in her gallery.
UNRESTRICTED FEATURE:

*
Unrestricted-Stock
There is a buzz in the stock gallery - who allows prints? Who allows off-site use? Should I let people use my stock in advertisements?
Well that is why this AWESOME club was started.
Whether you want to find stock that is unrestricted, you are a stocker that wants your whole gallery to be unrestricted, or if you just want some parts of it listed, then you've got yourself a goldmine right here.
Here are a few of the awesome unrestricted stocks you can find in the club and from members of the club.
Don't forget to check out the Licence Agreement to see all the cool stuff you can do with Unrestricted Stock!
FOCUS ON THE FORUMS!:
The StockArt forums are located here: StockArt Forums
A place for stockers to promote their contests, artists to request specific stock, ask for help finding stock, discuss stockart in general and much more! We go a little silly sometimes but don't let that scare you off! Just remember what we're about - STOCK!!
How Do You Handle It When Your Rules Are Broken?: by *
BellaDonnaStock. Although stocker's rules should be followed at all times there is the occassional slip up and these things end up happening. Rather than sic the mob on the rule breakers stockers usually respond with asking the artist to read the rules again and fix their mistake. Have a read through this thread to find out what stockers do when our rules aren't followed.
Stock All Night 2007: by =
cookiekitty-stock. Blantant advertisement here!

Stock All Night is the Stock and Resources version of ^
arachnid15's 'Up All Night'. Over the course of one weekend, stockers will be FLOODING the gallery with the images they haven't uploaded yet, or have hung on to for whatever reason. "What's with all this SAN07 stuff?" you may ask yourself on October 19... so rather than be in the dark, check out this thread for the full details!
MONTHLY STOCK PROJECT:
Whoever you are, whatever kind of resource you upload - check out

and join in on the monthly challenges to both Stockers and general Resourcers. Get featured in the Monthly Newsletter, find inspiration in a simple phrase or theme and join in with other stockers in a throw-together collaboration!
This month's challenge topic was suggested by *
AilinStock (thank you, schmoo' ). Word around the neighbourhood is that there are an awful lot of
Clichés in the stock gallery! Well, that's true. But they don't have to be horrible rip-offs. They can be awesome resources on their own - no matter who else has done the theme.
So, that's our aim of this monthly game. Find a cliché and WORK WITH IT!
October Challenge closes October 31!!
