Concerning The spiritual in Art: A Review

*gromyko:icongromyko: reports, September 23
Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases, the
mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture
produces an art of its own which can never be repeated. Efforts
to revive the art-principles of the past will at best produce an
art that is still-born. It is impossible for us to live and feel,
as did the ancient Greeks. In the same way those who strive to
follow the Greek methods in sculpture achieve only a similarity
of form, the work remaining soulless for all time. Such imitation
is mere aping.

dA anti-critique?

~StuMac1985:iconStuMac1985: reports, October 3, 2007
I have been trying recently to really promote a channel on dAmn to encourage critique. I have previously posted a news article, posted about it in my journal, tried to promote it on the forums and on dAmn. Everywhere other than news and my journal that I mention it I get shouted down, not by moderators of dAmn channels that arent 'official' dA channels, but the official parts of dA. The forum, first post made was by a dA staff member locking the thread. In an offical dAmn channel I got told note to promote the channel in their. When I said I was only trying to improve dA and tried to discuss it with the staff member they didnt want to know and only said there were other ways to do this, when asked about the ways to do it I was ignored!

So dA is preventing me from promoting a room that encourages people to be active and to help each other learn and grow by leaving critique not waste of time 'love it' comments, this leads me to think that dA doesnt like critique. Its an awfull shame to think that possibly the largest art community on the internet and therefore in the world, is in a round about way, discouraging critique.

It is a sad day indeed.

Good luck. Doesn't seem to me your doing anything wrong. Your not the first and probably not the last to comment something you posted has got shut down

Mmm... I don't know, maybe you approached this the wrong way.

In the thumbshare forum you can ask for that kind of critique.

You can't oblige people to accept critique if they don't want to... half of the people on this site don't like critique

my exact posts where this:

'Love critique? Then we have something for you [link] - in dAmn

and in the forums a copy of the news article linked above. Cant see how I am going about it wrong!

I know half the people on here dont like critique which is why there is need to have some way of telling who does! Read my original arctile to see where I am coming from on that point. My problem is dA preventing ths publicising of this and therefore preventing encouragement of what should be a MAJOR part of any art community

I'm sure you're right, but if we dont stand up to it then we as the artists will suffer a lesser community!

OMFG That's absolutely absurd.
If they're going to delete your thread, they should at least tell you why they did it and WHY what you did was so wrong.
Either way, I don't see why they have any reason to do such a thing.
