The Zombie Story Challenge!

After 6 hours sleep and a debate with my sister over the issues plaguing many of the zombie genre movies, the Zombie Story Challenge was born.

We want to know what your interpretation of a good Zombie story would be. Is it a plausible story of what could potentially happen today, or is it science fiction of what might happen in the future? Or is it something entirely different?


+ Rules +

1. The story must be original, since the point of this is to get people thinking about their interpretation of a good zombie story. So NO fanfiction! Sorry! (also, we don't want to have to research the original story to understand the fanfiction) XD

And don't copy other peoples stories!

2. The story must be a new one created for this contest, not one you wrote last year.

3. There is no length requirement; it can be as short or as long as you want.

4. The zombies don't have to be conventional. Maybe magic is involved, or a virus, or they're not actually dead but have characteristics that make them be considered zombies. Try and explain how/what made the zombies in the story though (we'd love to read it!).

5. Please try and limit the violence/gore/sex. We don't want to censor your creativity too much, but we want other people to enjoy your stories as well (or because I have a weak stomach). Keep the content around or below what would be considered an R rating in the US.
Really, just keep the content within the policies of Deviantart.

6. It doesn't have to be serious. It can be cutesy (I'm sure someone out there could pull it off) or scary or inspirational or funny or whatever. Just try to keep the story consistent and make sense in the setting you're putting it in to (i.e. if it's a fantasy story where people can use magic, then zombies coming to life from magic would make sense).

7. Character development, plot, dialogue (if needed), description, setting, etc should be taken into consideration. Spelling and Grammar would be nice, but don't be too worried if it's not perfect. As long as it's readable, it should be okay.

8. You retain all your rights to your stories. All we'll do is read them and link to the entries and give out prizes.

9. To enter, just post your entry on your DA account and send me a link!

10. One entry per person.

Entries must be received by 11:59pm EST on October 27th, and the winners will be announced on Halloween (hopefully!).

Voting for the Peoples Choice winner will start Sunday October 28th, and information on voting will be listed then. Peoples Choice voting will then end on October 30th at 11:59 pm EST, so the winner can be announced on Halloween with the Judges Choice winner.
