How could a little quirky painting lying around in the street bring so much joy to someone's day? I set out to find the answer myself, and what I got was something MUCH more fulfilling.
A very important issue to consider about the swine flu. It is in readable for English and Spanish speaking deviants. Please, pass this on to others that are concerned about the swine flu.

I can't view anything with a 'Mature content' warning on it now because it's deemed unsuitable for someone who is fifteen years old. There isn't anything with a mature content warning on it that you wouldn't see in a film rated 15 so to me it's entirely pointless.
Come on, deviantART, what are you protecting us from? A few naughty words and natural body parts? What are we being protected from - are we deemed not mature enough to appreciate art in certain forms?
At the age of fifteen you are well past the stage where a naked man or woman would cause a fit of giggles. At the age of fifteen you have experienced far worse language than that which you would find anywhere on deviantART. At the age of fifteen you are exposed to FAR more horrifying things. So where exactly is this ban coming from?
There is nothing on this site that is unsuitable for a fifteen year old - I would even argue there is nothing too unsuitable for a thirteen year old either. There's nothing dirty about artistic nudes so does this ban not make it seem that way? Doesn't it say to us that we aren't mature enough and aren't emotionally ready to view these images as works of art?
I think young people are often underestimated greatly - both emotionally and intellectually. What is ' protecting' young people from the naked body going to do exactly? We are exposed to drugs, sex, violence and alcohol abuse from early ages - you can't escape from it in society. I, personally, have seen some pretty nasty drug and alcohol related incidents - so have most - and aren't these more extreme than nudity?
To quote a friend, I would rather explain to a child how two people express their love to each other than explain to them the hatred in men that causes them to act violently.
There are images of violence on deviantART but you aren't going to find anything sickening. I COULD understand it if the ban only concerned violent images and was for those under 15 (as I've already said, you won't see anything on dA that you won't see in a movie rated 15).
Is sex more dangerous than violence? Why are we so much more accepting of violence in TV and films than we are of sex and nudity, shouldn't we be worried about the impact graphically depicted violence in films can have rather than sex scenes and nudity? Young people should be more protected from 'making babies' than murder and torture? Perhaps people would disagree with me when I say I think it sounds silly.
So now there's age restrictions on art - what next - age restrictions on books? You know, somehow that wouldn't surprise me...
Amen. This is infuriating not only because of its philosophical basis (or apparent lack thereof,) but because it's getting in the way of my viewing some very good art.
dA has gone to great lengths in their policy to distinguish between artistic nudes and pornography, and explain why one was allowed when the other wasn't. The hypocrisy of then lumping them together in one category of censorship is mind-boggling, especially in what one would consider to be an open-minded, expressive, and reasonable atmosphere.
I saw no problem with leaving the viewing of mature content as an option. If some poor 10-year-old's mouse somehow slips and clicks on "Allow Anyway," and they don't have the reflex to exit or stop the download, well, there ya go kid. Boobies. Can you sense that shattering demolition of innocence?
I'm just wondering what happens when someone who's fifteen has a piece of art in THEIR gallery that has the mature filter on it. I assume they can't see their own art or have no option but to take it down?

meh, i think it's a good idea. just because YOU have seen these things does not mean everyone your age has. deviant art is not here to babysit or be a parent for the younger ones out there. some things in life you have to wait till a certain age, NR or R movies, driving, going into the military, buying alcohol etc.

This is probably the 10th news article about this. It doesn't need to be said multiple times.
The mature content was ALWAYS going to be this way. $lolly and $realitysquared have posted journals about it to clarify what you don't already know.

There are rules for under age people for a reason. deviantART is no different.
At the age of fifteen you have experienced far worse language than that which you would find anywhere on deviantART.
Oh, really? Do your parents swear at you or something? If my 15 year old cousin swore around me, I'd slap her and inform her such words are innapropriate and do not "make her seem cool". It's calling proper parenting.
At the age of fifteen you are exposed to FAR more horrifying things.
I highly doubt that. Unless you yourself have, let's say, witnessed a car accident or murder, I fail to see what "horrifying" things you have seen.

The closeup shots of sex organs would be one. Hence why minors are not allowed to buy adult magazines. Such images are innapropriate for kids.
No, my parents don't swear at me - I'm not confined to my home. At school and outwith I can assure you that I know people who's vocabulary mainly consists of swear words.
And by exposed I didn't necessarily mean I have SEEN far more horrifying things - although I would consider some of the violence against friends of mine I've witnessed much worse than nudity.
I'm meaning things like rape, pedophilia and torture - isn't even knowing about this things is more horrible than knowing what a penis looks like?
And why are these images inappropriate for someone my age? In Britain, where I live, our movies are rated: U (universal), PG (Parental Guidance), 12A (12 and over, otherwise accompanied by an adult), 15 (15 and over) and 18 (18 and over). So in Britain it's legal for me to view content in movies rated 15 and there is nothing you would find in a movie rated 15 that you wouldn't find on dA. So in my country I am deemed mature enough to view this material so why is it so on dA?
Perhaps it should be taken into consideration that there are other people from other countries with different laws on deviantART because I don't exactly see why I should be stopped viewing images just because it's 'illegal' or whatever somewhere else.

BERNARD: Pacman. It's pronounced Pacman.
Anyways, until they set up the different ratings and categories of the filter, I'm opposed to this ban too.
