The concert photography is a great thing! Sort of a sport and a trial for your creativity. Blinking lights, over-expressed faces, random and exciting colors of stage smoke. A real hassle while you trying to make best during three allowed songs. Last but not least, some warm words from the bands, their fans and (ahh) opportunity to go backstage and - who knows - meet in person your favourite artists. Ok, back to topic
Is it that difficult to do? Not really. Sure, to shoot on any concert, you probably need to invest around $1000 in good telephoto lens. But even cheap "prime" lens such as 50/1.8 worth $150 will bring you really close to some great experience (seriuos people might consider 50/1.4 and 80-200/2.8 as a workhorses). You just need some more light in your camera. The rest is up to you. Just remember: five to ten unusual pics will have more impact that one hundred of usual "guy with guitar" things.
You will be looking lihe this, which is sorta cool:

The Daily Deviation. It was featured already in the news, but it's such a jewel of photography so I can not resist put it here.

Thanks a lot for using some of my pics, hehe.
Indeed a great choice of pics!
And you´re right, it´s not neccessarily about damn expensive equipment. One has to have an eye for the right moment...else the most expensive lenses are useless.

I agree with you and Cornelia, you need to have an eye for the right moment. Though I also think that pics of 'a guy with a guitar' is also a very important stage of learning this branch of photography.
I'd like to be good as those photographers... but (I hope) one day I will, I swear!
