ProjectComment Anthro Features- October 2009

=MachinesBleedToo:iconMachinesBleedToo: reports, November 1
As a Staff member at *ProjectComment, it is my duty to seek out Deviations one week or older with 0-5 original comments. I am in charge of the Anthro category.

These choices are forwarded onto the admins and then featured in a news article to help give a wider audience to these under-appreciated artists by exposing them to a group of people willing to leave original comments.

An original comment is not something like: "cool", "I like it" or "nice."

You can help too. Drop a constructive, thought out comment on these artworks if you find the time. It would be greatly appreciated by both parties!

Within this article are my feature picks for this month.

The History & True Definition of the Furry Fandom

^Katmomma:iconKatmomma: reports, October 13
This article is the most all inclusive, accurate, and informational resource for every question you have about the Furry Fandom. It Provides a complete chronology of Anthropomorphic Characters & Concepts throughout history, And CLEARLY Defines what this "fandom" is all about.

Before you read this little blurb I'm writing and think to yourself "Why do I care? Furries are weird people" Reconsider your thinking. If you enjoyed Disney films and Old-skool cartoons to any degree, then you share an interest with millions of people world wide. You don't have to be obsessed. You don't have to be attracted to a Vixen built like a brick house. You don't have to draw talking animals.........

all you have to do is appreciate animals, objects, or natural phenomena that can relate to you, emotionally, behaviorally, and to some degree, physically.

Obviously there will be people who prefer not to be labeled. But please make sure you have read what the entire article presents before you take offense to this. Because really if you've truly read it, there is no reason to.

A very interesting read for anyone who has doubts or concerns. Highly educational and you'll get a history lesson too. ;) Check it out!

Much appreciation goes to the author of this Document. I did not write this, and the article does not reflect my opinion. But there is a lot of good useful info in there that will get you thinking.

Anthro

The Unusual Anthro Contest

`skifi:iconskifi: reports, October 16, 2007
THE INTRO:

'Anthro – a synonym for anthropomorphism in the furry fandom'

Anthropomorphism is the attribution of uniquely human characteristics and qualities to nonhuman beings, inanimate objects, or natural or supernatural phenomena. Anthropomorphic is a word meaning "like a human." It is used to describe a well-known concept called anthropomorphism: ascribing human characteristics to a non-human being or object. (...) the word can apply to any non-human thing, including animals, plants, and inanimate objects.

 ~from Wikipedia and Wikifur~

As many of you know, there is a persistent cliché that anthro only means animals with human features, but the term, as you just read, includes not only animals but all kinds of vegetables, objects, and items, from your garden cactus to your toothbrush, as long as they are drawn with human-like characteristics, including:
  • Walk upright

  • Human features

  • The bone structure of a human, with some of its animal/vegetable/item counterpart (i.e. a cat-anthro that although looks like a human, can jump like a cat).

We can see animal-based anthros in our galleries everyday, but it’s quite uncommon to find non-animal anthropomorphic creatures. So, for this contest, the goal is to prove that the stereotype is not always true. So be creative and show us what you can do creating your own NON-ANIMAL anthro. ;)

Good examples are:

THE RULES:

  1. Each artist can submit one or more pieces to the contest, there is not a limit so be creative!

  2. The entry needs to feature anon-animal anthro picture, using digital or traditional art. Mixed media is also accepted

  3. Since it's a contest about Anthro Art, only Anthro Art following the Anthro Gallery guidelines can be accepted

  4. All entries must be new deviations, not uploaded before. The contest starts tomorrow (October 17th), and the deadline to submit your entries is December, 1st. So you have 6 weeks to do your homework!

  5. Your submissions need to be upload to an specific category, "Contests & projects > contests > 2007 > Unusual Anthro Contest", to enter the game.

  6. stocks and other resources must be credited even if you used your own or if the stock provider didn’t specify he had to be credited.

  7. Please write something about your image in the description (why did you choose that particular item/vegetable/non-animal for example) It will surely help you to catch judges' attention.

Nah don't worry about it, it's the creativeness of your DESIGN thats the most important, not if you can actually make Photoshop behave it's self :) It's worth a shot anyway right? Fun shouldn't just be about winning.

If nothing else, as another thinking about entering, I'd like to see yours :)

--
Coming up with an idea is dead easy. Executing it without issue however is where the creative kick comes from.
:iconfeather-dancer:
Hm this could be interesting so see if I hav the time, I'd say trees are the second most overused cus of the Dryad factor after critters though :)
