Poetry Feature #65

*TheFavoritesProject:iconTheFavoritesProject: reports, July 13
We've featured 65 poems since we opened our satellite account in 2007! Another one of the poems we featured received a DD before we had a chance to post it, so we posted two features this week. View the most recent feature here, as well a list of all the previous poems featured by TFP. If you like what you see, than devwatch the account because we feature a new one every week! No membership is required.

WordCount is Looking for You!

*WordCount:iconWordCount: reports, October 17, 2007
It's that time of year again! *WordCount is looking for staff.

After four months of slaving over deviations and choosing features, it's time for a few new faces on the WordCount team. In other words, we're looking for you!

Yes, you.

Well, maybe not you.

Definitely! You!

:teamwork: Staff Requirements

As a part of the WordCount staff, you will be required to submit at least three (3) prose deviations, per month, that you would like to see featured. Yes, that's right: only three (3) per month. It gets even better, though! To avoid burn-out and keep our suggestions fresh, you only have to agree to be on staff for the next three (3) months or 90 days. That means you only have to suggest 9 texts, total, over the next three months! After three months you can choose to step down, no hard feelings or grudges or drama or guilt trips; we'll thank you kindly for your time, in fact.

But there's a catch. (You knew there had to be.)

WordCount is interested in featuring prose from all the relevant literature categories on deviantART. As such, we'd like our staff to choose a "specialty area" where at least two (2) of their monthly suggestions must come from. So if you really love reading Biographies and can't stand Fantasy, this works out pretty well for you; we're not going to make you read something you're not interested in. Reading should be a fun, leisurely activity.

Specialty Areas

:pointr: Fiction

:bulletblue: Children's
:bulletblue: Fantasy and Historical
:bulletblue: General Fiction
:bulletblue: Horror and Mystery
:bulletblue: Humor and Satire
:bulletblue: Life Stories and Perspectives
:bulletblue: Occult and Spiritual
:bulletblue: Romantic & Erotic
:bulletblue: Science Fiction

:bulletblue: Journalism, Editorials, and Reviews
:bulletblue: Historical Nonfiction and Essays
:bulletblue: Satire and Philosophical Nonfiction

Staff FAQ

:pointr: What if I like one part of a category but not the other?

These are tentative separations and we are certainly open to suggestions, but for now we'd like you to act as if these are the categories that Will Be. If you really love "Horror" but hate "Mystery", I'm sure we can work something out.

:pointr: Can I choose more than one category?

Absolutely. If you like to read prose from several of these categories, we have absolutely no problem with that. However, we would like you to list your "top two" categories in case there is interest from other parties as well.

:pointr: What if I find something I like outside of my category?

That's not a problem at all. You're only required to find two (2) deviations from your category per month, and you only have to submit three (3) suggestions per month overall, so that leaves you plenty of room to suggest as many different things as you'd like. If you find 15 deviations that month that you absolutely love, as long as at least 2 of them are from your category, you're gold.

:pointr: What if I searched and searched and nothing from my category looked good?

We'll deal with that when we get there. If you've made an honest effort and nothing seems remarkable that month, we're not going to force you to feature something you don't like. However, if less than three deviations becomes habitual (say, for 2-3 months in a row), then we might ask you to pick it up or step down.

:pointr: Are you really featuring that many pieces every month? That's a lot!

It is a lot, and the answer is "No." There will be a much smaller staff that looks through all the suggestions and chooses which pieces to feature each month. The suggestions not chosen won't be forgotten, though, so don't lose hope! They may be saved for a future issue.

:pointr: Well how do I get in that group?

Start as regular staff, get your suggestions in, show a commitment to the project and to prose (as well as impeccable taste), and we'll go from there.

:#1:All right, I think I can do this. Where do I sign up?

Please submit the application below, as a note, to the WordCount account. Be sure to follow the format and instructions.

Before You Submit

Winter is a busy time for a good many people. Please do not send in an application unless you can commit three months to the project, these months in particular: (half of) November, December, January, and (half of) February.

---| :postit: APPLICATION

Note title: APP [insert the category you are applying for]

Please be sure to include your first choice category in the title of your note, else we may miss your application.

Please include the following information in the body of your note:

:bulletred: A brief, relatively honest blurb about yourself
:bulletred: A reason (or two) why you'd like to be on staff
:bulletred: Which categories you're interested in and why (please list them in preferential order)
:bulletred: Two deviations from each of your desired categories that you would choose to feature

For each deviation featured, please be sure to include the title, author, and a link to the actual deviation. Do not include a link to the writer's gallery.

Deadline

All applications must be received on or before October 31, 2007.

Is that it?

Yup, that's it. If we do not respond to your application within ten (10) days it means you have not received a position at this time, but your name will be kept on the list for future consideration.

As I also said in the journal, I only find prose via Daily Deviations, WordCount, or Mr. Smith, so I guess I can't really help here. :(
