My name is Scott Alexander, and I am the new Gallery Director for the newly moved Street gallery. You can now find Street directly within the Photography category, no longer in Urban & Rural. I think the main decision to move street was based on the fact that about 80% of the current gallery is miscatagorized. Something I indeed intend to fix in my new position.

Street Photography was given an unfortunate nickname, it makes you think that it should include every day items found on the street, or just streets themselves.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. Street photography is a type of documentary photography that usually features people in candid situations in public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings.

I myself have been shooting street, in some capacity since just after I joined deviantART in the fall of 2005, and have made quite a following for myself, yet nowhere close to the above listed people.

In closing, I really have to street the fact that street photography is an extremely easy category to miscatagorize in, so please, take your time. Read up on the resources i have supplied, and you yourself may become the stuff of legends..
