This contest wants on one hand to show that every single artist can improve (also motivate viewers to also keep practicing and never quit their art!) and that to improve is much more important to compare one's art with what it was in a previous moment, than compare it with other's art.

The Original Character Contest is a contest for people who have their own characters. At times as an artist it can feel discoursing if you put up a deviation that you put a lot of effort and time into, but it seems as if people could really care less.
Then a few days later you submit a fanart picture that you didn’t spend as much time on, and it seems to get a lot more attention.
This contest is for original characters only, to appreciate the time, effort, and creativity that goes into a person’s character. This contest for both Cartoons & Comics and Manga/Anime gallery sections of DeviantART is a salute to the artists and their characters.
