My contest "Abstract Mania" had a big turnout, with 80 contest entries, and I am still blown away by the turn out that this contest had. There were so many awesome entries, and that made it very difficult for the judges to choose 3 winners.
The 1st place winner,

entered:

and it was a hit not only with the judges, but also with the contestants, and you can clearly see why!
As we know, there is always an artist behind the art, and a story behind the art, that makes it all the more interesting to hear what the artist has to say about what we all love to do here, only in his own special way.
Congratulations Jeff, for creating such a beautiful piece of work that clearly won the audience!

How old are you?
I just turned 30.
Where are your from?
I was born and raised in Burbank, California, Moved to Houston, Texas, Now I am living in Memphis, Tennessee (soon to be on the move again).
Tell me a little about your artistic background, style, likes, plans for the future, ect. with your art.
Well, where do I start...I love art! Overall, I strive to be a well rounded artist weather it is a traditional medium, digital, or photography.
I have been creating art as far as I can remember. Both my parents, and my aunt were very good artist. I remember sitting and watching my aunt draw collages, I would try to imitate her as best I could

I think this is where my Psychedelic flare came from.
One particular area of art that has also intrigued me and I feel has had the greatest impact on my style is Graffiti. Living in the Los Angeles area I saw it everywhere! For most people I guess it was an eyesore, for me it was eye candy!
I would get excited when a train would go by (still do!), trying to read all the colorful pieces as it roared along through town. What most people don't understand is the crazy amount of skill these writers have! Try picking up a can and creating an intricate recognizable piece, in the dark for that matter! Then you'll begin to understand why I have so much respect for this type of art!!!
Lets see...future plans, If I had it my way I would be making a living with my art, unfortunately I am more of an artist than I am a business man

. I would love to one day have my art on exhibit in a gallery or something. For now, I will just continue doing what I love, we will see what the future holds!
What are your favorite art peices from your gallery?

I have more but these are a couple of my favorites.
Where did you get your inspiration from for your contest entry?
What do you feel and think about your peice?
Oh...This came from a little dark and twisted section of the grey matter between my ears

LOL! Actually, I was browsing through your gallery and was immediately inspired to do a black and white piece. That's when you brought up the contest to me. So basically you inspired me! As far as the overall concept and style of the drawing, That just flowed out of me, It really just took on a life of its own.
I felt pretty good about doing this drawing, I haven't done a traditional piece in quite awhile so finishing one up was pretty rewarding on its own.
Anything that you would like to point out about your contest entry?
Hmmm, I guess I really want people to feel this piece rather than see it. It sounds strange, I know But, This piece had more to do with what felt right than anything, if that makes any sense.
Was this your first contest?
I have entered a few contest over the years previous to this contest. I'll list a few here:
Reflections PTA art contest = first place
Houston livestock show and rodeo art contest = first place
Humble livestock show and rodeo art contest = Grand champion reserve
Deviant art Scion contest
Cardboarding kiteboard contest
What do you like about DA?
I love so much about DA! All the great people I've met and friends I have made, I like Being able to share a common interest with so many people, I love just looking at all the amazing art there is to see!!! DA sooths my visual addiction! Plus the exposure is more than great.
Who are your best buddies on DA?
The thing that is great about DA is that there is so many very friendly people, everybody I come across has been extremely respectful and just very kind! I have such great admiration for so many artists here, I couldn't possibly list them all.
Who are your favorite artists on DA or beyond?
I have way too many to list!!!! That is no exaggeration!
What is your favorite style and type of art?
Hmmm, that is a tough question...You might get an idea if you check out my gallery, I really like all forms of visual art. Psychedelic art, surrealism, and graffiti are definitely up there along with photography and digital art. I know that is broad, but I honestly have a broad range of favorite artistic Types and styles.
If there is any place in the world, that you would like to go for artistic inspiration, where would you go?
Not very far! I know that this wont sound very exciting but I find artistic inspiration all around me constantly, usually in nature! For me, just going on a walk might bring me some inspiration. I may see an interesting fold in a tree trunk or a cool looking pattern on a rock, or even a face in the textured ceiling above my head right now. It's funny, as an artist you have a sort of awareness that I guess the majority of the general population is oblivious too. (I know you all know what I am talking about!

) You see things or at least pay attention to things others would normally just pass by and pay no mind to, Those are the things I draw inspiration from.
Is there anything else you can think of, that you would like the audience to know?
Just that I am so glad to have this opportunity to connect with this great community! It is nice to be able to meet so many awesome artist and people who see things the way I do.
Most people I associate with on a daily basis, don't seem to get it. Maybe that sounds a little pessimistic or like i am being an Elitist, but I am not. It is just that I, as an artist, experience the world on another level. I know you all have to know what I am talking about! Anyways, so yeah, basically what I am saying is I am just very, very happy to be a part of this community and have the opportunity to meet all of you great people! Thanks!!!
