Objective

Project Streamline is a project my team is currently working on to reduce the amount of redundancy and confusing categories on the site. We currently report just over 1800 categories and for someone who's been here a while, even I get confused. That being said, I cannot imagine how that translates to someone new joining the site and I can only assume it's incredibly overwhelming.

How Were Changes Decided?

My team has gone back to the community and looked at the subcategories within their galleries to determine what categories are unused or redundant. I have also gone through the listing that verifies how many deviations are within each category to determine what I would consider a 'failed' gallery. Failed galleries are galleries that have less that 100 deviations in them, on a site with millions of people, I'm sure you can agree this doesn't represent a large number of people at all and these deviations can be housed in a more appropriate place.

Over the course of the next month or so I will be putting the plan into action and you may notice some of your images being moved. Some may end up in scraps temporarily while I restructure, or we may ask you to move them to a more appropriate gallery of your choosing. I am doing everything in my power to make this as least invasive as I can but to some extent I will require the cooperation of the community to pull this project through.

I am currently working on Skins and Themes so if you have work in that gallery and notice things moving around, that's just me Bear with me and I'll try and get it done quickly with as little hassle to you as possible.


Many other galleries will follow and I will post a running list of what's going on in my journal. If this is important to you, I suggest you watch myself and the gallery director for your gallery to ensure you stay informed.

Once this project is finished, we will begin a new project that will make better use of category descriptions.
