Flashers of DA Magazine Vol. 2

~Masterswordman:iconMasterswordman: reports, October 26, 2007
Hello, welcome to volume two of the Flashers of DA magazine. This is a feature which focuses on a different Flasher each week(or so) by having an interview with them and showing some of there work, either art pieces or animations. The artists featured will range from the fairly well known, to more recent artists.

In case you didn't know, a 'Flasher' is someone who works with the program Adobe(formerly Macromedia) Flash to make art and animations.

This weeks feature is:

:iconlazymuffin:LazyMuffin

LazyMuffin is a considerably well-known Flash artist here on DeviantArt with many favorites and numerous fans. Once you're done reading this article, you'll know why. His simple art and wacky humor make for very funny and enjoyable animations. The simple style of his work only compliments his unique sense of humor.

Here is a recent interview I had with him:

Me: Glad you could be here! Ok first question, how did you first come across Flash?

LazyMuffin: Don't pretend like I'm there. Makes me sad.
I came across flash when my brother downloaded it in 2001 or so. He made me watch some animations on Newgrounds and I found it fascinating. Even before I discovered flash I made little flip-books animation. I made him teach me the basics of flash and since then I've been messing around with it.

Me: I think a lot of us are introduced in ways like that. Next question, any Flash artists or animations that inspired you as you were beginning in Flash?

LazyMuffin: Firstly I was inspired by Xiao Xiao, like many animators. After I got over my stick-figure stage, I started getting into more random silly animations, Sqeezy (Tim Frommeyer) was perfect to adore. I found his animations fun to look at, a great mixture of colors and frame by frame animation. I can safely say he inspired me.

Me: What do you feel is your proudest or most liked accomplishment, to date, with Flash?

LazyMuffin: The flash that I've made that I'm most proud of is definitely "Nameless 6 Vol.1". It's my longest animation (about nine minutes) and the script took me a couple of weeks to write. It was also number 4 on the top 50 of Newgrounds for about two minutes!
I think that that animation shows what I have to offer animation and writing-wise.
My other most favorite animation is probably "Bang Bang You're Dead". I don't even know why, I just really enjoy watching it, which is rare for me.

Me: The music video was just plain odd for me. Nameless was hilarious and I definitely look forward to more of that in the future.

I noticed you formed a group called the Radical Wrong Doers, RWD for short. Where did you come up with that idea and what is the basic concept behind it?

LazyMuffin: I came up with it after seeing Nogfish's animation for the Kitty Krew. I noticed most of the Kitty Krew animations are just effortless loops. So I decided we should form a group that releases quality spam. We have recruited two members since the beginning, Luis and Sqeezy, both of em artists I adore.

Me: Interesting. What are some of your plans in the future with flash?

LazyMuffin: Oh totally, fascinating I'd say! and I know! I wrote that!
Near future - Publishing a game for Armorgames contest hopefully. Deadline is being a bitch. Finally really start working on Nameless 6 vol.2 (I have the scripts finished for more then a month now) and just create stuff I enjoy making.
Far future - Being able to make a living animating and maybe even have a cartoon, but thats just silly.

Me: I'd like to make a living off flash too. Its a reasonable dream.

Do you have any advice for newer flash artists?

LazyMuffin: To be honest, not really.
Just... do what you enjoy doing.

Me: Wise words.

What are some of your favorite things to draw?

LazyMuffin: HEY! You're starting to take questions from Nyu's meme!
Hair. Not sure why, I just like the way I draw hair, although I fail at drawing female hair.

Me: Oops! Completely unintentional. :P

That's enough questioning for now. Any final thoughts or comments to wrap up?

LazyMuffin: I just want to be remembered as the boy who wanted to reach the stars.

Me: And you may. :)

Here is a short sampling of his great work:

Thats all for now. Feel free to Note me with any suggestions for a featured Flash artist, although I have a pretty sizable list lined up already.

See ya'll next time with another flasher!
