It happens to all of us: you hear about some sort of cause--saving the rainforest, working towards the cure for cancer, supporting the families of people dying of AIDS.
But then you look in your wallet and see the same piece of lint that has been there for weeks, and not much else.
Well now, you can do something. For absolutely nothing more than some of your spare time.
This is
Free Rice.
It works as a game: it gives you a word and four words under it, one of which is the meaning. If you get it correct, Free Rice donates 10 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger.
After answering five words, it sets a level for you that will be constantly on the boundaries of your knowledge, so you learn while you play without even realizing it.
No one is "too smart" or "too dumb" to play--there are thousands of words of varying difficulty, for people who have just started learning English to brainy English professors.
Just take a few minutes out of your day to play. Once a day.
I've made a stamp free to use, to help people spread the word through their journals to others. Every grain of rice counts.
I am also keeping a scoreboard in my journal of those who have participated, so you get a little bit of attention for yourself if you do this as well.
So go here to play. And give to yourself and others at the same time in only a few minutes a day, for free.
Go here to learn more.
