Since many of you will be chums from oversea's I shall give a basic overview of what the tradition of Bonfire Night, November 5th, is all about.

Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes night, remembers the night of the Gunpowder Plot. In 1605, a group of Catholic conspiritors plotted to blow up the houses of Parliment while the protestant King James was inside. They were caught before they could set light to the gunpowder, and they were tortured.

In memory of this event, it is tradition in the UK to set off fireworks and burn a bonfire, preferably burning a 'Guy' on top of the bonfire (Guy Fawkes was one of the key conspiritors). Many people go to giant displays held all over the country to see some spectacular fireworks display, eat some toffee apples and warm by a giant bonfire.

But just as with Halloween, there are those who simply must spoil everyone elses fun. Many people in the UK will have already heard stories this year of people being idiotic with fireworks. In my town alone a group of teenagers (and younger) ran round a busy street, holding fireworks as long as they could before they exploded. There has been stories of fireworks set off in local shops and foreworks aimed at firemen while they try to save lives, children tying animals to rockets before lighting them. Of course, there are those who don't mean to cause harm but manage to let a bonfire get out of hand.

This is a shame. Many countries will have holiday's where fireworks are used in the celebrations, and I can only imagine they too hear of people abusing these. Fireworks can be a work of art, and to celebrate the good things about bonfire night I have raided Deviant for some beautiful fireworks and bonfire shots.
