Whenever you look at the news, chances are youre going to find more negative articles than positive. Headlines are filled with stories about murder and rape, missing children, robberies, senseless violence, and of course, celebrity gossip which I think most of you agree we could all live without. Although these stories are needed to be aware of whats going on in the world (minus celebrity gossip,) what to look out for, and a good reason to be careful on the streets, they can have a negative impact on the way we think in our daily lives.
But do they have to?
No!
This is where the Positive Postcard Project comes in.
How it works.
It will start off with 10 participants including myself. The first nine people to send me a note saying they would like to participate (who meet the requirements in the rules section) will send me their mailing addresses. I will then match up the participants randomly, and send you the mailing address of the person you will send your postcard to. Participants will not know who is sending them a card
. Unless you tell them, which I recommend you do not. The surprise is half the fun! If the project goes successfully the first time around, I would love to do it again!
RULES:
1. This project is for artists. You must have at least two pieces of artwork in your gallery. If you apply and do not have any art in your gallery, your request to participate will be denied.
2. NO ANIME/MANGA FAN-ART. I dont mean to discriminate, but it seems that this site is overrun with users who do nothing but poor anime fan art, which, any original artist will agree, takes attention away from the real artists on this site who take the time and effort to create original pieces of artwork.
3. The background has to be made up out of collaged local newspapers from your town/region that have to do bad things happening in your area. You dont have to be able to read the article. The base of your postcard must be solid and flat, like cardboard or flat canvas.
4. It must have hand-drawn/made objects made by you pasted on it in collage form. Photographs are also acceptable as long as its in a collage form.
5. Lastly, it must have a positive quote or saying on it. It would be even better if it was something that has personally affected you, whether it be your outlook on life or something you try to remember to help you stay positive. What you do with the back of the postcard is up to you.
6. Only apply if you are serious about this and will actually send your postcard. It would be unfair for a person to send their postcard, and not get one in return.
Why am I doing this?
As someone who has been battling depression since a very young age, Ive learned that its the little things that cheer you up and make you feel good about yourself, or inspired. Not only is getting mail a mood-booster, but creating something to send to someone else is also very exciting, especially when you are told that what you sent made a difference in someones day. And theres nothing more exciting than finding something other than junk mail and bills in your mailbox! So I figured, why not do something like this? Although we would have to look at the newspaper article to cut it up, the objective is to override the article with a positive message. In a world with so much negative energy, chaos, and depressed people, we need things like this to remind ourselves that there are good things, and people, in life.
So send me a note if you would like to be a part of the Positive Postcard Project.
