The Ghosts and Ghoulies Literature Contest Results

It was a difficult choice to make, but at the end, I feel that I’ve chosen some pretty wonderful deviations. Take a look at these entries and see which ones spook you and which ones make you laugh.

First Place

When Annie Came to Stay by *ThornyEnglishRose

‘When Annie Came to Stay,’ is written in a casual, charming voice that delivers lines with such humor that I can’t help but smile, even at some of the nastier parts. The story is mostly dialogue, delivered by characters as compelling as the story itself, and there are no sections of this that I did not enjoy. ‘When Annie Came to Stay’, is (dare I say it) reminiscent of Roald Dahl. It has a humorous, slightly macabre, and always enjoyable style that I can’t help but fall in love with.

Second Place

The Quilt by *simeberg

It was a terrific pleasure to see such a truly creepy story among the many deserving entries. This story takes a “what if” situation, adds talent, skill, and craftsmanship to create a tale which is not only gripping, but a good read.

Third Place

Lights Out by *salshep

A few pieces really stood out to me while I reviewed the entries. ‘Lights Out’ is definitely one of my favorites of the bunch. Its imagery is magnificent, and it reminds me of some of my childhood nights when I thought all the shapes in my room were moving.

Honorable Mention

The Party by ~mani-mas

I just couldn’t resist creating another section for this deviation. ‘The Party’ is a classic horror story that is both exciting and vivid. It has that special something that made me want to continue until the very last word.
