Traditional Art - Lack of Knowledge and Sense

=devouredex:icondevouredex: reports, Nov 5, 2007
So, I have been a member of deviantART for almost 3 years now and its clear I have a passion for Traditional Art. According to my stats I have made over 30,000 deviation comments, most I know are on Traditional Art images. Most Favourites I make are of Traditional images, and most people I watch are involved in Traditional Art. I have been involved in Traditional Art since the age of 2 so for 21 years now. And I just started a Club called *UK-Traditionalists to celebrate and help Traditional Artists from my Home land. Yet in the near 3 years I have been here, certain things have NOT changed.

In the last few days I have reported numerous Miscats involving Digital Art being Submitted into the a Traditional Art Section.
I cannot remember how many I have come across in total. I once reported someone with over 20 - 30 digital images submitted in Traditional Categories. Actually I have made a couple of deviant Gallery reports for the same reason.
I know many deviants who have come across thousands in just one week.

:bulletblue: What Traditional Art IS and IS NOT
Examples mentioned in the Gallery info when submitting:
“Traditional Art means any work creating with traditional medias such as pencil, pen, paint, wood, spray paint to name a few. Works that are significantly created by these means and only lightly touched up should be submitted to this gallery“.

“Traditional work is created using mediums available off the computer such as Ink, pencil crayons, pastels paints and pencils. If you have only done the lineart for your work in traditional ink, and then you coloured it on the computer, it belongs in Digital”.

“Images created using traditional painting methods such as water color, acrylic paint, oil paint, egg tempera and other painting mediums. Must not be created by computer; there are categories in the Digital Art gallery that are more appropriate for such submissions”.

Hint: Click on ‘Gallery Info’ before submitting to make sure you have the right gallery. It’s Not Rocket Science.

P.S: If you Produces Canvas Paintings - Body Paintings etc. Obviously these are too big to scan, you cannot fit a person or a large canvas under a scanner. So taking a photo to submit into a Traditional Art section suited for them is fine. So long as the contents are Traditionally Created.

:bulletblue: Try to Fool the Community with Traditional Fakes.
The worst type of Traditional Art Disrespect I have ever seen is someone trying to pass off a Digital or Photography piece as a Drawing or Painting.
News Flash, its not going to fool anyone. There are many brilliant Traditional Artists on this site with great experience who can spot a fake Traditional Piece.

There are many Artists here who do genuine Traditional Work that seems Digital. But its easy to see they are Traditional as they offer a 'Full View' of their works so you can see the grains and textures.

Below is an example of a Great Artist who's work seems photo like in appearance.

:bulletblue: Photo Quality Traditional Art Example.
Here is a Brilliant Artist. His work is beyond belief and seems Photo/Digital like. But they are not, they are all Traditionally Created.
- A Perfect Example of Traditional Brilliance is Long Time deviantART Member:
:icontunaferit: *Tunaferit
Below you will see several deviations produced by *Tunaferit the first is by far his most popular and widely acknowledged piece of Hollywood Beauty Milla Jovovich

Below are Three of his works which have also received great recognition. See how he includes full views for people to see the grains and textures.

:bulletblue: Traditional Art Examples.
Here you will see a selection of Mind Blowing Traditionally Created images from various Categories on DeviantART. There is a mixture of Known and Unknown images and deviants.

- Drawings.

- Paintings.

- Body Paintings.

- Sculpture.

- Printing.

- Street Art.

- Collage.

So to Round things off:
- Read all info Provided and submit into the correct categories.
- Don’t try to fake a Traditional Piece by submitting Digital, it wont work at all.

Indeed, but its a shame that you are forced to even come up with it like this.

It is really, really, all to easy to just read the gallery info. You get the ideas from that straight ahead.

And well, fakers (whom do this on purpose), what is there to spare for them but contempt?

Well written! I get so frustrated when browsing trad work with the amount of ms paint work being submitted to that gallery, as well as amount of photomanips of trad work that should not be there...

Many people are fairly lazy and don't bother clicking, I mean, I made that mistake almost 3 years ago when I first joined, but now I click if I'm unsure.

Ah, I wish I had any sort of talent for traditional mediums. But alas.

I agree, it is a shame when digital tries to pass for traditional.

Thanks for the reminder. ^^
