DENYING THE POVERTY DRAFT-THE SOLDIER AS A SYMBOL

=whitetrashpalace:iconwhitetrashpalace: reports, July 9
The Poverty Draft, Politics, Symbols, and the inconvenience of being human.

Even in times of war, the Soldier as an individual is of no consequence. The Soldier is a symbol, a simple pawn in a culture war. The Soldier is either a villain, or a Hero. The Soldier always serves for the honor of his country, not his paycheck. The Soldier is faithful, as there are 'no atheists in the trenches'. The Soldier is Combat Arms. The Soldier is male, he married a young white girl, and he has a baby on the way, whom he has never met.

The Soldier is a romantic ideal.

:bulletred:[link] -Hitting Children

The issue of spanking children in the USA has become a "hotbed" of controversy. Most every time that a child goes to school, if s/he has a mark on them the teacher is required to report it to the Office, which in turn reports it to the Child Protective Services of that particular state government. Child Protective Services is then required to investigate it as it is Child Abuse, and the parents are interviewed and required to explain that mark, bruise, or cut.

I have a few problems with the process:

01. The child could have aquired the mark in playing with others, running and falling, or a number of other innocent manners, yet when reported, the parents names are automatically kept in a databank forever.
02. I have no problem with controlled, responsible spanking of a child, yet if a child tells the Child Protective Agency s/he was spanked, or if the parents are seen spanking their child in public, they can be arrested.

I, of coarse, agree that children should be protected from abuse and physical harm, but doesn't verbal abuse scar a child emotionally for life more than a controlled spanking? How is spanking viewed/ administered in your country?

:bulletred:Personal Editorial Commentary

The subject of my commentary shall be:

Immigrations: In the Wake of the Tabasco/Chiapas Floods

After the Katrina/New Orleans Floods Louisiana refugees emmigrated to not only all parts of Louisiana, but to all parts of the United States of America, and some to Canada. Over a million and a half Mexicans have lost everything in the southern Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas, so where do they go for relief? Many, many of them said they would go to "El Norte" {the USA} to earn a living, like their friends and relatives. Is the USA prepared to accept an army of displaced, homeless, flooded out Mexican Nationals? Does the USA have a moral obligation to help these homeless, flooded out, desparate refugees? Should the USA give Foreign Aid to Mexico to help relocate these refugees in Mexico?

I'm with you 110% on schools reporting possible abuse. I have a three and a five-year-old who are constantly running around, bumping into things, and each other. They're boys. They have bruises.

When my oldest (now 13) was in kindergarten I had Social Services sent to investigate a bump on his head that he'd received playing tug-of-war. His opponent got bored, let go, and my son bumped his head on the arm of a recliner. He was fine, went to school the next day, one of the other kids came up and :poke: "What's this?" He went to the teacher and said his head hurt, so she sent him to the nurse. Next thing I know, I'm being investigated for child abuse because they interviewed him without our knowledge or consent with a woman from SS and came up with some ridiculous story that he agreed to because he was little, scared, and surrounded by people he'd never seen before all asking him questions.

I completely understand wanting to protect kids, but the schools seem to have NO concern for the parents anymore. Because of my little guys being themselves and because of instances like that, I'm constantly worried that I'm going to get another knock on the door. And I'm sorry...five-year-olds embellish. And if they don't remember, they make it up or just agree to whatever the grown-ups try to push on them.

I should feel safe sending my kids to school, and it's bad enough that there are other reasons not to anymore without having to worry about the teachers needlessly turning you in because one of your kids happened to bump himself on the head...

...sorry...you hit a soft spot ^^;

 absolutely.
I was the tom-boy of all tom-boys...in the trees, climbing rocks by the river...constantly bruised and battered. But teachers actually got to know their students back then, as opposed to having 30 kids to a class room. If something was wrong, my teacher knew it because I was acting differently, not because they happened to notice an odd bruise and had to play 20 questions with the nurse, guidance counselor and someone from SS. But they keep cutting the budgets, classes get bigger... pretty soon all our kids are going to be numbers...

I have been on both sides of the abuse reporting issue, as a parent and as a teacher. I am 100% behind schools reporting suspicious marks on children PROVIDED that the faculty and staff are trained to recognize injuries and behaviors that are associated with abuse. Not all abuse is physical.

My oldest son was very active when he was young and always seemed to have various cuts and bruises. I had a go-around with his school about this.. fortunately there were many people in my community who stepped up to our defense... much ado about nothing, my son has ADHD.... and I've never had to spank my children. Violence only teaches violence.
