A writing contest from ~soul-perfume
Oxford English Dictionary Definition
duality . n. (pl. dualities) the state of having two parts or aspects
The aim of this contest is to write of an experience when you saw yourself acting as though you were another person. A time when you let your
'dark side' lead the dance, a time when you lost control. Perhaps you could deal with dual identities, e.g. Jekyll and Hyde.
Questions To Ask Yourself:
Was the result of this experience positive or negative?
How did it feel to be 'outside' yourself?
What sensations/emotions etc. did you feel?
Did you enjoy these feelings?
What did you do whilst under the control of your dark side?
What did you deduce to be the meaning?
This can be fictional or non-fictional, poetry or prose, so long as you express the concept of duality.
You may write in first or third person - which ever comes naturally - (writing in third person would tie-into the concept nicely).
- Push your imagination and your writing skills
- Be original - originality stands out
This contest was submitted by

, who has received 50 member points for this. I have made a few tweaks to tighten it up but the ideas are all hers.
Rules:
- Poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction - it's your choice
- Word limit = 100 - 1,500 words
Rating & Commenting
All comments should be constructive; do not simply say that you 'like' the piece or that it is 'beautiful'. Explain why you like it, what you think could be improved on and how these improvements could be made. For more information on critiquing click
here.
When you comment on a piece of work you are required to rate it.
1 is the lowest rating and
10 is the highest.
The piece of work with the highest rating wins the contest.
Entries should be judged on
- 1. Relevance to the theme
- 2. Quality of the expression of duality
- 3. Workmanship (face value, presentational quality)
- 4. Creativity
- 5. Intrigue (interest, provokes thought, etc)
Submitting Work
To enter the contest all you have to do is complete the writing task given and submit it via note with 'Submission' in the subject line.
Remember to include:
- Title of entry
- Description & keywords
- Categories
- A link to your entry
The contest will run for two weeks, the first week will be for submitting work and the second will be the judging period. The winning piece will be the groups featured deviation for the next week.
All submissions must be new writing to ensure that everyone gets a fair go at the contest.

However, as there are a few questions needed, you can try doing something in the same style but going more in-depth ... don't give up!
