What is *Writers-Workshop?
*
Writers-Workshop is a brand new literature community that focuses on the development of a writer. We intend to provide a non-competitive workshop environment on dA, as well as to push good, polished writing over winning prizes or "networking".
Workshops will be conducted every fortnight; prose, poetry and free-for-all sessions will be rotated.
Heres the interesting bit:
Each workshop will be conducted by a respected member of deviantARTs literature community or by an established writer from the outside world.
What do I get if I win?
Well, *
Writers-Workshop isnt about winning. Your only competition is yourself. However, there is an incentive, and for any writer determined to improve, its the best incentive there is: critique.
The workshop guest, that is, the person who is conducting the workshop, will pick his or her favourite entries and critique them. This way, you are likely to receive intelligent and helpful critique from an experienced and proficient writer.
Your entries will also appear in our journal and all are welcome to offer comments or critique. You neednt be a "winner" to get something useful out of a workshop.
So, whos hosting our first workshop?
^
GunShyMartyr!
Besides being a hands-on literature GD, ^
GunShyMartyr is a wonderful storyteller. To know more about him, read
this interview or better still, browse his gallery.
For our first workshop, ^
GunShyMartyr has a prose challenge. Read ahead!
THE FIRST WORKSHOP
^
GunShyMartyr: "Write a short story with an unexpected ending. It can be a twist, or a shocking surprise, or a final paragraph that shifts everything that came before it into a new light.
It would be best to plan out the details before you sit down and write it all out, but if you can't stand doing story plans then go with whatever works for you. Also, anyone who ends their story with "and it was all a dream" will be shot. Really."
*
Writers-Workshop: There is no word limit. However, please make sure your entry isn't unnecessarily long. All descriptions, characterisations, sub-plots and tangents must be relevant to the short story. This workshop isn't about boring your workshop host, it's about writing a polished piece of prose. Also, keep an eye out for poor spelling and grammar. Happy writing!
