I know we can not regulate manners but I think the difference between critiquing someones work and insulting them personally needs to be addressed

Ok, so the title is a little sensationalistic, but I was afraid "How to Make Your Collaborative Project Succeed" was a kind of boring title.

Have a project and need help? Don't have a professional budget? Here are some ways to recruit people for your project.

Nip Netstalking in the Bud

~sanjouin-dacapo:iconsanjouin-dacapo: reports, 1d 22h ago
Net stalking is one of the more unpleasant things one can experience when using a forum or art website such as deviantart. The boundaries of real life are often blurred or ignored, resulting in skirmishes, flame wars, or long episodes of stalking by someone the target doesn't know. Even though this stalker often cannot hurt you physically, knowing that you are being followed can be scary. Here are some tips on preventing or lowering the likelihood of being stalked, as well as avoiding becoming a stalker yourself.

Policy Violations not being dealt with properly?

~StuMac1985:iconStuMac1985: reports, November 13, 2007
Recently I have felt the need to report various images on dA for policy violations. Some for just being obviously wrong, some for copyright violations, some just for mis-catergorisation.

I reported this image the day it was submitted:

in the description she admits she is only 13 in this image! I have been told by TWO separate helpers in the #Help channel that this is a violation and yet still hasn't been removed!

This image I reported for mis-catergorisation yesterday and has been recatergorised:

As advised by a helper in the #Help channel I noted that the entire gallery needed looking at as most submissions were in the wrong catergory (all in self-portraits) but still for example these are in the wrong place:

- in self-portraits
- in self-portraits

This final one I reported a couple of days ago, that submission was removed by the deviant and has resubmitted it. It is a copyright infringement that dA are already aware of and even mention in gallery info for monuments:

Now, I know the staff of dA have a life outside of dA, but surely, if one policy violation can be sorted this quickly, and one that is unimportant compared to nudity and copyright violations, then surely these should be sorted by now?

I think you're forgetting the fact that there are likely hundreds and hundreds of policy violations being submitted to the gallery directors for miscats and the policy staff for copyright and that even on the best of days they can only do so much, and also they can only act on stuff that is reported, so in the case of your final call out you would need to resubmit a policy violation on the new dev. They can't remove something unless they know about it, miscats are not the only things the GD's deal with.

All the staff; paid or not, work incredibly hard and yes some stuff does slip through the net or can't be dealt with immediately, but you really need to give them a break. Complaining like this only demoralises the people that are working to make DA better, and believe me it doesn't help them. You would be much more productive if you continued to report violations which supports and helps the gd's and admins keep the galleries free of the wrong/inappropriate material.

a) yes, the first one is serious, but excluding that, how can you complain just because dA staff hasn't moved a couple of photos to the right category? And probably they do have more important things to do.
b) Reporting violations like the last one is just a waste of time, plus this violation doesn't really harm anyone, except according to some it weird copyright issue that has to do with the tower's lighting. Honestly, I can't find why it has to be your business or why it bothers you so, or anyone who isn't dA staff (who are obliged to check for every possible copyright violation).
If you want to help people you could find art thieves or serious violations instead and do some good to the whole community.
Otherwise, by complaining and reporting people for having a couple of picture into the wrong category or just because they didn't see the regulation about Eiffel tower, well, I can't see where you want to get.

That is not true... multiple reports just create a flood of messages for staff to handle. One report is all that is needed.

My point is a mis-cat was dealt with within 24 hours. a nudity violation was not, and a copyright was not. The resubimitted dev has been re-reported as I thought I had made clear.

Copyright is copyright, it doesnt matter if its a photo by an amateur photographer or the copyright on the eiffel tower. Breaching copyright is breaking the law! That is why it bugs me so.

The mis-catergorisation doesnt really bother me that much, but if you look at who the artist is who had mis-catergorised you will see that it iss the SAME artist that has breached the nudity policies! In my eye this makes the fact that dA staff have recatergorised one of her photos, and not the others and not taken action against the nudity violation all the worse.

Gallery miscats are handled by the GD's, and these days there are 2 if not 3 of them for each individual main gallery - so thats currently 52 people doing miscats.

Copyright infringements and nudity etc are handled by the admin, I believe there are about 4 or 5 on the policy enforcement team at best guess FOR THE WHOLE OF DA.

Thats 17 initial gallery categories split into on average another 10 sub categories which are in turn split into between 2 and 8 sub-sub categories... and how many active members potentially reporting policy violations to this small team of people? 4 or 5 million? Do you see where I'm heading with this?

Ok I see your point and can accept the reason as to why the things I have pointed out haven't been dealt with. All I can say is that there needs to be more admin members on the policy enforcement team. Now I know saying that is easier than it being done, but if naked pictures of 13 year old girls can stay on dA for over a week then something needs to be done!
