Help find and catalog native ladybug (ladybird beetles) species in the US through the use of photography and Cornell University's Lost Ladybug Project. This effort may aid in preserving certain ladybugs from extinction.
I am looking for works of any quality to put unlockables in my little videogame project. Prizes for the best, but evryone who participates will get his/her drawing put as unlockable in the game! A little contest in which everyone wins!
October is upon us and that means a lot of things to a lot of people, but for many of us it means candy, spooky stories and dressing up. So with that theme in mind I'm hosting a for-fun art jam that combines all the fun Halloween stuff together.
I don't know if you are aware of the fact, but I'm doing a study at college on how people decide if they like or dislike a piece of art. At the top of my page I had a statement outlining the study.
I've just been reported to the staff here on DeviantART by an artist for intellectual property infringement, and was very saddened and shocked by this. I wish to fully inform all those artists here on DeviantART.
I just want to let you know that no infringement of your intellectual property is intended, or will occur at any time during my study, and that if you want to withdraw at any time, please let me know. No profit is or will be made, and all images are used under the fair uses rationale (low resolution image only, all credit to the artist, academic purposes only, etc). I'm not printing the works at all, I'm only displaying them on a computer screen for a few seconds, and that's it.
If I'm not banned, I plan to continue posting updates of my study, and the final findings in or around March. I wholeheartedly apologise for any offence or upset caused.
I hope that you feel positive, feel fully informed, and would like to take part. If you have any further questions, please contact me at rohano@tcd.ie or here on DeviantART, and I will be only too happy to clear anything up, or just have a chat about it, art, or anything else.
I really feel that if you don't want your work "used" (ie. theorised about by others) then don't put it in the public eye. D-ciz-N is not doing anything with these works that infringes on anything. How is copyright infringed?? I am allowed to do a study of Nirvana's effect on listeners without having to contact Geffen Records, or Nirvana - studies of affects of art do not have copyright issues. Artists should be proud to be included in a study at this level.
Don't artists know that once you are in a "study" your work is in the university system?? We should be thanking you, thanking D-ciz-N for the amazing work they are doing trying to get some of this unknown art into the university consciousness.
Stop complaining and start thinking about what this person is trying to do. They are trying to get art into institutions, and they are not sticking to the canon. Do you know how hard it is to write about art not in the "canon" - do you all know the "canon" is filled with ammunition to make sure that Deviant Art is never "real" art. Does anyone read Foucault here?? There is a war on, a war of images and thoughts, and D-ciz-N is helping us.
Give them a break. Thanks D-ciz-N - you RULE!!!!

Your explanation as to what you are doing is excellent, don't let
a little negativity put you off, it sounds like a fascinating study, I've always been curious as to why people enjoy certain "art" that doesn't seem pleasing to the eye, good luck with your project. The info you provided should allay some fears.
For all legal purposes, the artist doesnt have to be contacted at all.
Intellectual property rights stop at credited use for non-profit purposes.
If you want to use any of my art for your study, feel free and if you want a high res copy of any of it - e-mail me at frost@stereotypegames.ca and I'll send them to you as an attachment.

I think you should have asked first but I don't see why anyone would have a problem

How can someone call infringment on how a piece makes me "feel" ... talk about being violated! (?) Personally, when I do a show, I choose not to interact with people, I like to observe from a distance to see how my work makes them feel or get their reactions without my input. I welcome it! It's not infringement, it's giving something to me. Carry on!

Your project sounds like a great idea for your thesis! While you are totally in the right, maybe the artist just felt it was rude or was simply offended by your assumption. Either way, you are correct in all the jargon of the intellectual property uses, etc, but I think people would be much more helpful if you ask.
Good luck though with your paper! It seems like it is going to be a great project!
Im a professional rainbow collector so I thought I'd share some of my finds from my favourite folder = R A I N B O W S A must see for all colour loving beings
I posted on the forum asking people to show me their green deviations and I got a lot of very good green deviations. Please show your support for these artists by faving their art and faving this article.
`arcipello's artwork is instantly recognisable. His vibrant colours and sci-fi scenes are breathtaking at times, pulling you into a world where man and machine live in colourful harmony.
An inspiration to many, Daniel's dedication to his craft is evident throughout his gallery, with many of his beautiful prints hanging on walls across the globe.
