Happy Thanksgiving, fearless deviants!
In the spirit of a the holiday season, I'm bringing an old idea of mine out of the closet.
I know most of you are aware of `
ArtistsForCharity--they've got a great cause and a lot of amazing artists involved in what they're doing. I hesitated on this idea for a while because, while I had it before I knew about aFc, it would operate somewhat similarly, and I didn't want a good cause getting written off because you thought it was a copycat idea. But I think this project still has merit.
Essentially, it would be a project entailing artists such as yourselves volunteering [at least] one piece of art to put toward the cause. The revenues made from that one piece during the duration of the project would be 100% donated to a charity. Yes, along the same lines of what aFc already does. -10 points for lack of originality.
I'm inclined to direct the profits of the project to
Compassion International. I'll give you more background information in another article if there's enough interest in the idea, but here's the basic scoop: Compassion has been around since 1952; today, the central operation of Compassion exists in child sponsorship. For $32 a month, anyone can provide a child from a poverty-stricken area with an education, food, clothes, and many other things they would have no access to without their sponsor's donations.
My own family has been sponsoring children for years. Every couple of months, we get a letter from a little girl in Peru, telling us about her school and family and all sorts of amazing little things in her life. It's incredible what a dollar a day in the hands of Compassion can do for this little girl.
Compassion is genuinely effective. At least 80% of a one-time donation goes directly to the cause of your choice [Disaster Relief, AIDS Initiative, Christmas Gift Program, and more]--no lining of the pockets here.
Because I'm a bit of a goose, I thought it would be rather amazing to start getting everything together and officially launch the project this coming Valentine's Day.
But that's where I need you--your support, ideas, and opinions. This will require deviants [read: you] to volunteer their pieces, run the show wherever needed, feature the project in their journal, and spread the word however else they can--and more. I've got a few, but when it comes down to it, a few isn't going to cut it.
So please, head over to
the forums and sound off! Ask your questions, share your opinions...give me your 'count me in!' ;] Feel free to note me as well.
Cheers!
JayLynn Alise

Whatever use I can be of, let me know. All of my work can be used in the name of charity. All-though I haven't been out shooting in a long while, but I'll get right to it this weekend.

There are four kinds of homicide: felonious, excusable, justifiable and praiseworthy...
There's more on it in our journal, but essentially, you can be involved as a contributor or a promoter [or both!]. If you'd like to contribute a piece or pieces to the gallery, you'd be a contributor. If you don't want to contribute your art, but you're willing to help spread the word and get other deviants on board, you'd be a promoter. We'd love to have you!
