The ART of the PENCIL

=ariess:iconariess: reports, November 23, 2007
For as long as man has existed, so has drawing. Along the way has come advances in technology and the world as we know it.
Somehow, we as humans managed to evolve and get smarter, too. But one thing has stayed the same. The existance of simple
lines and shading, drawing. The ability to see something and sketch it on paper. Drawing is all in how you see it according
Betty Edwards author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. (Ok, paper and pencils have evolved.)

Betty Edwards? This brings me to the whole reason for writing this in the first place. I remember growing up and learning to
draw that the only resources I had were those closest to me. (teachers, family, friends) My resources were pretty limited actually.
I mean, I only knew of one person in my family that could draw(and he lived 12 hours away) I didn't have any friends that could draw.
My art teachers, well most of those were limited as well. I did aquire a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain when I was in
High School. This seemed to help me alittle. I really didn't aquire good resources until I went to Art School, but even back then
it was limited.

Now, where the hell am I going with this? Internet! Deviant Art! Now we can talk with someone online quicker than talking to a next
door neighbor. The amount of resources is totally unlimited. I am 37 years old, and I am still learning things. I see so many talented
people here, and I don't hesitate to ask questions. Most times people love to help other people especially when it comes to learning.

Just recently, I asked :iconstapic: Katarina Stapic a question about using a grid when drawing. She was happy to help. In fact, she sent me
a diagram of it. This was very helpful to me and I am very greatful to her. And just resently I was reading a journal from :iconaramismarron:
aramismarron and in his journal was something called "tips, tips, tips" a description of how he blends, shades, draws, etc. Again,
very helpful and I so appreciate seeing this.

After hearing about the GRID, I have noticed others were using it. Man, talk about a real time saver. Some of you might be asking yourself,
"Did you grow up under a rock?" I guess the answer to that would have to be "YEAH". Like I said, my resources were very limited.

I guess the whole point to all of this-

If you can't do something and someone else can....ASK! If someone asks you then return the favor you were granted and HELP!

To all of you that have helped me, and i am not afraid to admit that I am a 20 year veteran professional artist and still is never satisfied
with his work.......THANK YOU! Thank you so much.

To all of you reading this, I will leave you with this advice.....never stop learning and never stop teaching.

Here are a few of my Favorites and some of my own:
