Places to See Before You Die: Castles of Ludwig II

=slaza:iconslaza: reports, November 29, 2007

Dear Readers

In this article I would like to introduce a real deviant to you. He would have been member of dA too, but he lived in an age when postal-pigeons were the common communication method not the internet. (Can you imagine the difficulties building dA on a postal-pigeon system? How could you press the :+fav: button, for example? :D ) The name is Ludwig II, King of Bavaria. (For readers who has not reached this part in their history studies yet, the "II" after the "Ludwig" is the number "2" written in Roman numbers and should read as "the second". Any pronunciation resembling the name of the Nintendo Wii is plain wrong!)

He was a real deviant and art maniac. He commissioned the building of amazing castles spending so much on them that he almost broke the royal family! He supported Wagner in writing his operas; he even built a cave with a lake in it to make proper surrounding for their performances. In retrospect, his castles are such a great tourist attractions now that they paid their price many times already. Was he a nut case? Yes no doubt about it. He spent his money on art and beautiful castles when fellow kings raised armies, waged war and get many people killed - what we usually consider normal behavior...

If you ask me, I say we would need more nut cases like Ludwig II all around the world!

Enjoy the pictures and If you like them, please don't forget to :+fav: this news!

Thanks for this article. Great pictures overall! The only odd one out for me is that Latvian girl in the waterfall... It seems too unspecific to me: the picture could have been taken anywhere in the world and doesn't tell me anything about the castle...
