Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. The poem consists of seventeen syllables split into three lines which consist of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. A haiku captures a fleeting images, a sense of beauty, sadness, or wonder.
This weeks challenge is to notice throughout the week momentary perceptions of beauty, gloom, and wonder, and to write a haiku or series of haiku describing your experiences.
Here are some translations of traditional Japanese haiku:
'the carpenter's saw
stops
at a small knot'
- Basho
'the theif
left it behind
the moon at the window'

'the bushwood gate
and for a look
this snail'
