This is a link to a site devoted to getting out awareness of a disorder called Infantile Spasms. There is as of yet no cure for this disorder, and the treatment for it (anti-epileptic medicines) can have serious side-effects. Symptoms generally start to appear between 3-6 months and stop by age 5-6. Though I.S. resolves itself, many children who develop it will develop other types of seizures which may last their entire life.

This father, blogging about his child and his own attempts to cope with and raise awareness of this disorder really touched me, and I simply thought I'd share it. If you think you have a good forum for spreading this awareness even further, I encourage you to do so.

The Canadian seal hunt (or more accurately, massacre) took the lives of over 220,000 seal pups this year. Boycott Canadian seafood and Red Lobster and ask every seafood vendor to stop buying all Canadian seafood.

December: Official Awareness Months, Weeks, Days

*ItDoesNotHaveMe:iconItDoesNotHaveMe: reports, November 30, 2007
In the spirit of what this group stands for, health awareness, here is a compiled list of month-long, week-long, and official days for awareness in October. I have also included links to official websites for each cause so that you can read up on any of the following issues and spread the word, making yourself and your loved ones aware of signs, symptoms, risks, treatments, and possibilities.

This is something that I'll be running from this account on a monthly basis.

^opioid

Month-long:

-

Weekly:

December 1-7, National Aplastic Anemia Awareness Week (United States)

Official Days:

Dec 1: World AIDS Day (Worldwide)

Dec 3: International Day of Disabled Persons (Worldwide)

I could only find documentation of these 3 awareness events in December! Please, lend a hand:
If you know of any other awareness months, weeks, or days, please send a note with that information and I'll gladly add it to the list.

Tomorrow is National AIDS day. I'm going to be wearing my ribbon as I always do in real life and making people aware because my brother has it.

Wow, I had no idea there was an International Day of Disabled Persons... That just shows the (still relative) lack of interest towards anyone suffering a disability, be it physical or mental.
A lot of people don't trust I am disabled because I can hear, speak, reason, use both my arms and walk on both my legs. My disability however is real and will never leave. I will make sure I spread the word about IDDP!

i had just found about seven different links for you and right when i went to send them?? dA temp. down and i lost them ALL!!!
i had a polite comment with them and everything and now am feeling rather miffed and wanted to be nothing but helpful to you. i'm so sorry, but i'll try to find what i can again, but i'm not sure how much luck i'll have. i'm so sorry. i wish this could've been more elegant and organized as it had been on my first attempt. these were the few causes that i thought may or may not be helpful now or for future reference :):)

Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month [link]

Season Affective Disorder Awareness Month [link]

December is Int'l Sharps Injury Prevention Awareness Month - Infection Control [link]

NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND ACTION ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN [[even though we missed it; for future reference]] [link]

National Handwashing Awareness Week [[more for the kids and hygiene]] [link]

i think i ended up missing a few that i'd found; but i wanted to get you what i could. i also realize some of the days and weeks are over or that they aren't entirely fitting under the article; but i wanted to share what i could. ... now :fingerscrossed: let's hope this goes through this time.
*at least i have it saved if it doesn't* :XD:
