Snarling at the Wolf Kill Program

~Save-The-Wolves:iconSave-The-Wolves: reports, December 4, 2007
Had I not glanced at the headline of a certain article in the Vancouver Sun newspaper, I would not have submitted this.

Agriculture and Lans Minister PatBell are attempting to 'save and preserve mountain caribou.

If I had just read that sentence, then I would have agreed with the article.

But readiing further, I discovered the true, discusting meaning.

They plan to save the caribou by killing wolves.

I know a great deal of wolf lovers and admirers here on DA, and I would like to draw attention to this.

What they are doing is sick and discusting. Save the caribou..? Sure, I'm all about save the caribou, but what about save the wolves? 41 wolves have died in the last five years in an area east of Quesnel. This may not sound like a huge loss, but it is. How many wolves have lost mates or brothers? How many cubs are orphans?

Here is a scanned copy of the article: [link]

And this DOES have something to do with ART!

I was wondering if you DA Wolf-Lovers would consider doing some art that shows why they should leave those wolves alone. If we can get enough entrees... we might be able to do something about this injustice.

If you have an entry, please send the link to :iconsave-the-wolves: and I will put it up in the journal.

Please submit your artwork before the deadline of December 25th. It is our Christmas Gift to the Wolves.

Thank you for reading

Grow up and realize how nature works. ANIMALS die all the time. The ONLY way to help encourage the caribou population is to reduce the amount of animals that hunt them.

How many wolves have lost mates or brothers? How many cubs are orphans?

What the hell? Mates? Brothers? Orphans? Stop humanizing ANIMALS. It makes you look like a furry. :|

Why should we favor a non-native species (wolf introduce by humans into this eco-system) over a native species? The caribou have been hit hard, and the wolves are doing tremendous damage to this population. If the endangered species act was followed, the wolf would not have been allowed to be introduced due to the potential damage to native species.

Further, the mountain caribou is a truly endangered species, where the wolf is recovered fully and they this will not even put a dent in the population. Again, why should we allow a non-endangered species preference?

I realize you like the wolf, but why should that over-ride us trying to undue the great harm we caused to the caribou by introducing the wolf?

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

And by the way, I think humanizing animals is wrong, especially when humans are the ones killing the animals. Just because they're not human doesn't mean they cannot have brothers or fathers. If that's not what they're called, then what?
~Save-The-Wolves:iconSave-The-Wolves: Dec 5, 2007, 8:45:59 PM
I'm not telling anyone to favor one animal over another. Infact, I have respect for the caribou. Just because one's being endangered, doesn't mean we should endanger the other. What if we go too far, and then make the wolves endangered?

I simply think this is not the right way to handle this. Don't ask me what the right way is, I only know this is wrong. It is the human's own fault they introduced the wolves, anyway. I think they should have left them alone, then this whole situation would never have happened.

But they did.

Thank you for realizing we like the wolf, but do not loose sight that all animals are important.

You silly-face, wolves are monagomous. That means that is a male wolf dies, so does the female! =P

Wtf, you guys.

Wolves are creatures.
Caribou are creatures.

Why should the humans have to intervene. If the caribou are being killed by the wolf, then let the caribou DEAL with it.

Humans shouldn't have to kill the wolves. Why why why the hell do humans do this. Why why why.

Des yeux qui font baiser les miens,
Un rire qui se perd sur sa bouche,
Voila le portrait sans retouche
De l'homme auquel j'appartiens

Quand il me prend dans ses bras
Il me parle tout bas,
Je vois la vie en rose.
~JesterSeven:iconJesterSeven: Dec 5, 2007, 10:53:59 PM
The problem is, once the carribou population becomes too low, the wolves will die too as they starve from not enough food. This is fairly routine in nature, but the inclusion of humans throws things out of whack and likelyhood of a species rebounding from a substantial fall in any sort of timely manner is less. The alternative to not killing the wolves is to move them, but species re-location has an abysmal record and can easily wreak unexpected havoc.

=the-shaggy-skipper:iconthe-shaggy-skipper: Dec 5, 2007, 10:57:10 PM
Ok, here's the problem. If the wolves overpopulate, they will consume all the caribou, and this will, un-arguably mean that the caribou will be dead. With the caribou gone, the wolves will die a slow, painful, inhumane death of starvation.

Hunting keeps the population of wolves at a reasonable number, and because a good hunter can end a wolf's life without making it suffer, WHAT do you possibly see that is inhumane?
