Better Digital Photography Magazine-Free online

^kkart:iconkkart: reports, November 26
From the Publishers of "What Digital Camera" and "Amateur Photographer", IPC Media today has announced a new online photography magazine, "Better Digital Photography" that people can read free and fully online, it is also interactive with embedding video tutorials from the magazine and mouse-over tips. Aimed at the entry and intermediate level photographer, it is heavily devoted to equipment and technique-focused photography content.

From the IPC Media website:

Publishing director Alex Robb says: “This is an exciting and innovative new venture for the photo portfolio. The editorial team have worked incredibly hard to create bespoke content, including technique videos and other interactive content. I am delighted that we have secured distribution to around two million photographers to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the excellent tips and advice. Better Digital Photography is a further indication of how IPC continues to innovate in this competitive sector.”

Editor Mat Gallagher adds: “We wanted to create a product that helps the reader expand their knowledge, while being easy to use. It is thanks to the talents of art editor Steve Crabb that we have managed to produce such a visually stimulating and accessible magazine that surpasses anything else in the market place.”

My thoughts, this is downright awesome and VERY well done, it is like looking at an actual magazine, but the fact that it has videos embedded within for tips, tutorials, and techniques, make this even better! You can also subscribe for free, via email for upcoming issues, make personal notes within the magazine, and download a copy to your hard drive. GO GET IT!

This just in: Not All Art Nudes the SAME

~groundlingchild:icongroundlingchild: reports, December 5, 2007
Today I read a comment that hurt me to my little artsy soul, and it went something like "I don't care about nude photography anymore because it's all the same."

To my artsy soul. There are many, many talented artists who pour their hearts into creating nude art photography which is totally and completely unlike anything you've ever seen.

The style most often associated with the art nude is the "classic" nude--one model on a black back drop, shot in black and white, often with dramatic "noir" lighting. How different can those be?

And that's just the classics. How else are good artistic nudes shot? On location, in nature, with body paint, in groups, underwater, in the rain, in the snow, on custom-built sets, in abandoned buildings, in bright light, in candle light, by flash, in blacklight! Let me count the ways...

I hope the 50 images above give you a good idea of the diversity of the genre--like all art, there are mundane, boring copies of older mundane, boring works. There are ripoff artists. There are people who are just plain uninspired. But there are is also vibrant, original art. Enjoy.

Oops... I posted one image twice. I guess the 50 images above.
:iconwynnesome:
Nice article, addresses the point well!

And thank you for the feature on "Crescent" up there in the "classics" section, as well!
:icongroundlingchild:
I went through your whole gallery looking for the perfect mix of your classic style and a different flair. I really like this pose.
:icongroundlingchild:
And by "50" I meant... 43. This didn't post quite right, but it's close.
:iconwynnesome:
Thank you... this is a wider view of the pose Gremlin's big print "The Touch" came from - the one that's hanging in the lounge at the studio.

His is framed bridge-of-nose-to-hip, bodyscape style, but it was just such a pretty pose I'm glad I shot the full-body as well. I even contrasted mine a little less than I would sometimes to keep more middle grey tones like in his print. Of course I can't really compare mine to his medium-format film print, but at least in feel I can aim for that!
:iconbitterrose6-gumitch:
thanks heaps for putting "in her shoes" up there with all those other awesome images it means a lot and everything you said is very just well done

Thanks for the inclusion of my image in your selection...and I totally agree with your comments - images of the nude can be as varied as images of any other subject - it all comes down to the perception of the maker!
