Today I read a comment that hurt me to my little artsy soul, and it went something like "I don't care about nude photography anymore because it's all the same."
To my artsy soul. There are many, many talented artists who pour their hearts into creating nude art photography which is totally and completely unlike anything you've ever seen.
The style most often associated with the art nude is the "classic" nude--one model on a black back drop, shot in black and white, often with dramatic "noir" lighting. How different can those be?

And that's just the classics. How else are good artistic nudes shot? On location, in nature, with body paint, in groups, underwater, in the rain, in the snow, on custom-built sets, in abandoned buildings, in bright light, in candle light, by flash, in blacklight! Let me count the ways...

I hope the 50 images above give you a good idea of the diversity of the genre--like all art, there are mundane, boring copies of older mundane, boring works. There are ripoff artists. There are people who are just plain uninspired. But there are is also vibrant, original art. Enjoy.

And thank you for the feature on "Crescent" up there in the "classics" section, as well!
His is framed bridge-of-nose-to-hip, bodyscape style, but it was just such a pretty pose I'm glad I shot the full-body as well. I even contrasted mine a little less than I would sometimes to keep more middle grey tones like in his print. Of course I can't really compare mine to his medium-format film print, but at least in feel I can aim for that!
