`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

AdoptMyPoem/AdoptMyProse: Here to help your lit.

~AdoptMyPoem:iconAdoptMyPoem: reports, December 6, 2007
Do you have a poem or piece of prose that you really want some help with? Or perhaps you’re in a giving mood and feel like helping someone improve and grow? Whichever of the above best fits your situation, *AdoptMyPoem and ~AdoptMyProse are here for you.

We’re determined to help people get the best out of their literature, and are sure that many of you share our goal. As such, these twin projects work through a deviant-helping-deviant system. The best part of this? You don’t have to be a member to help out… in fact, there are no members! We don’t consider ourselves a club, but a resource, and as such anyone can participate!

Here’s how it works:

If you submit a piece to be ‘adopted’ to the appropriate account (either poetry or prose), it will be placed on the ‘ pin board ’ for that account. People looking to adopt pieces on the pin board then note the appropriate account as well as the author of the piece with an adoption request. As soon as the author of the piece notes either the poetry or prose account with an agreement note (agreeing to the adoption of their piece), the piece will be moved to the “adopted” list, and the submitted piece will be critiqued, and aided, by the person that adopted the piece.

Once a piece has reached it’s fully revised edition, it will be moved to either the Finished Poems or Finished Prose list.

It’s as simple as that!

Interested in submitting?

That’s great! To send a piece to be added to the pin board, note either *AdoptMyPoem (for poetry) or ~AdoptMyProse (for prose) with the following information:

- The name of your piece.
- A link to your deviation or scrap (only pieces on deviantART, please).
- A short description of the piece's topic.
- The category in which you have submitted the writing.

You’ll be added to the pin board as soon as possible!

Interested in Adopting?

Awesome! Thank you for taking an interest in the projects! Where to go from here?

Simply go to either the poetry or prose pin board, and check which of the pieces you would like to adopt. Then, note either *AdoptMyPoem or ~AdoptMyProse with an adoption request – linking to the piece you would like to adopt. Then, note the author of the piece that you would like to adopt with an adoption request, again with a link to the piece you would like to adopt (as well as with a link to the project account, to avoid any confusion).

As soon as a note agreeing to the adoption is sent back to the project account by the author, you can start helping!

Three recommended ways of helping improve a piece are:

- Comment on the piece in question with an in-depth constructive critique.
- Talk to the author in a dAmn chatroom to help gauge what they want to get out of the piece.
- Take part in an active critique of the piece in a dAmn chatroom to ensure that what you’re saying is fully understood, as well as actively help with changing specific parts of the piece etc.

Queries?

If you have any questions to ask about either of the projects, feel free to comment at the bottom of this article, or note either *AdoptMyPoem or ~AdoptMyProse with them!
