^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29

They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

I find that vaguely depressing. Since when did techno-slang, which isn't even composed entirely of letters, qualify as a dictionary worthy word?
(not to say that I don't use it myself, but only when typing.)

When it's in common enough usage that people who don't even know what it stands for know what it means, I suppose.

Though, I must say, the sound of "w00t" pretty much signifies its meaning.

That isn't a word already? Oh, I suppose it doesn't need to be a non-word to get woty.

I suppose syzygy is alriiight.

If it's in the dictionary does that mean it's suitable for use in essays? I'm all for the addition of words to the dictionary, it's all about the development of language, but when they begin to take the place of formal language I will probably cry.

What's the point in adding W00t (with two zeros) to the dictionary? It's not like anyone would be able to use it in scrabble... it has two numbers in it!
