These days, you heard about all kinds of community ads telling you not to support piracy and buy original, from original released animes to genuine car parts, which always claimed to have better qualities than pirated versions. Then again, there are also hypocrites among those who call on for supporting originals when they also promote piracy at the same time. Especially when it comes to online art thefts where people make FRANKENMECHS out of original mecha linearts by pros for their own selfish indulgence.

What is a FRANKENMECH? A FRANKENMECH is a juxtapose or collage of existing mech linearts (mostly Gundam MSs) which requires photo editing softwares and existing linearts. Here's how you do it:
1. Gather all kinds of mecha linearts you can find, whether scanned from gunpla manuals or just ripped it off from online official sites.
2. Cut out the MS with Photoshop and separate 'em into body parts, weapons etc.
3. Just swap and cut-and-paste the parts as you see fit, recolor the whole thing if you want and voila! Your very own FRANKENMECH.
4. See? You don't have to be as great like those mecha artists (Katoki, Okawara, Fujioka) to make great looking mechs. FRANKENMECHING makes it so easy and fun. Yeah, now you can tell Bandai to go to hell...

Who does it? Why, the FRANKENERS of course. FRANKENERS are liars who clearly had no knowledge at drawing mechs by hand and no desire to pick up the trade. A FRANKENER does not need to practice and sharpen their skills because he/she can just picks any mecha linearts from the linearts library, juxtapose it into their own mechs and show it around in any forums, while those who spent years of hard works and practices sharpening their skills are not appreciate in that particular site because their works eventhough are originally hand drawn, are not as good as those FRANKENMECHS. Why of course, FRANKENMECHS are made from existing finished linearts by PROS, they(FRANKENs) are just picking up the bits and turned it into something they claimed as their own.

The TRUTH about FRANKENMECHS is that FRANKENERS are MOCKING mecha art and the professionals from the industry. They can talk passionately about animes and adores characters and mechs like crazy fangirls squealing at concerts, yet they can also ripped people off by cheating their way to make themselves on par with the pros by making FRANKENMECHS without enduring hardships which the pros has gone thru. When people criticize their FRANKENMECHS as "CHEATING", they went all fire up and whack the critics back like Al-Qaeda extremists.
Here's how they react:

-When I said this mech was built with existing linearts, they said what gives me the right to trash their work.

-When I point out that FRANKENING is cheating, they called me arrogant and just because I'm skilled, I can look down on others.

-When someone posted their hand drawn mechs on there, regardless of levels, they didn't even bother to look at it and gave these amateurs the snubs because it's either really not good or they are just too ashamed to give their comments.

-When I told them to learn to hand draw the mechs, they said that frankening is as difficult as hand drawing and who has the time to learn traditional arts? Bullocks.

-When I resorted to aggression by calling them half-past 6, they are even more pissed and sent me a warning letter. Which means they just can't take criticisms openly, easily offended and never learn to put themselves in the anime production people shoes.

Initially, they sounded nice but as you keep stressing on the subject FRANKENING=CHEATING repeatedly, they would hurl you back with all sorts of lame excuses and flamming remarks. They even called me a 'NAZI' for that. So this is how anime fandom has become nowadays-DENS OF THIEVES AND HOOLIGANS.

As the saying goes "TO LOVE CLEVERNESS WITHOUT TO LOVE LEARNING MAY LEAD TO MISCONDUCT", what FRANKENERS did was purely ABUSIVE and DISRESPECTFUL to their nippon mecha idols. Eventhough they said they did it for FUN and they had the artist's permission to use the linearts, those are all unacceptable excuses because they are commiting a BARE-FACE ROBBERY and this is downright ART THEFT.

Now, these looked pretty nice, aren't they? For those who had no knowledge and aren't familiarize with existing mecha arts, don't be fooled. How to tell a genuine mecha artpiece from a FRANKEN?
1. Take a closer look at the resolutions of each parts, which can be significant as one part is sharper and the others blurred or pixelated.
A genuine artpiece is perfectly clear in resolution from head to toe.

2. Compared the parts with any existing linearts and soon you would see the similarities. It's pretty obvious to tell where that part came from.
A genuine artpiece does not show significant similiarties with other existing linearts.

3. Rough edges on the FRANKEN lines due to cuttings via Photoshop software.
A genuine artpiece has clean, fine outlines which are not jagged.

4. Differences in art styles, where each pros has got their own style at mecha drawings like Okawara's traditional 2D style and Katoki's detailness. FRANKENS often looked ODD due to mixture of different art styles.
A genuine artpiece is tidy and clearly of one particular style.

5. Poor anatomical proportions and distorted perspectives are also the results of linearts mixture.
A genuine artpiece is proportionately accurate and not distorted.

The bottomline is, we always took things for granted. Be it natural resources, relationships and the peacetimes, we just took it and never give something back in return. FRANKENERS are like that, they took existing linearts, mix it into FRANKENMECHS for their own pleasures and that's it. They are not helping the industry to grow, they are only MOCKING it with all these FRANKEN TRAVESTRIES. Being a fan, it is your duty to give something back to the industry who offer you the things which you enjoy everyday. How do you give something back to your favourite mecha artists?
