COURAGE CONTEST ANNOUNCED:
What does Courage mean to you? In this competition it meant freedom, forgiveness, love, hate, new careers, roles-changed, cultures flattened, loss, old respect, ignorance, and routine.
The contest itself went considerably well; the time passed in its usual fashion and before I knew it, I had this wonderful collection of stories and poems. Once again, I can't believe the amount of people who entered, and really, thank
you. The full list of entries can be found
here, but without further ado:
Place Takers
1st place:
"The bulleted prerequisites blur past, until I reach the last one, which stands out with startling clarity: you must know how to chi ku (work hard) to be employed here. The literal translation of chi ku is to swallow bitterness."
The Bubble Tea Girl by *
Negated
In all honesty, I had this piece favourited before I even knew it was a submission. I admire
The Bubble Tea Girl for it's delicate language, and its compact way of telling an ideal. *
Negated gives a tradition a new light. In the words of the author, "Sometimes courage is bowing your head and sludging onwards no matter what orange peels and potato rinds are thrown in your face."
*Negated wins:

2nd Place:
"He stayed home that semester and watched the leaves turn golden and red and fall en masse. The landscape shifting colors."
Esprit de L'Escalier by *
dgregory.
Whilst showcasing *
dgregory's extended dialogue, the story is one that all can relate to. It shows a courage changed--one that the narrator realises is the way its going to be, but there's one thing the narrator does have, "the Tin Man's Heart, the Lion's Courage, and the Scarecrow's Brain. He was Dorothy's home."

Giving Up by ~
EveningDownpour is such an honest piece, told in a way that makes us all think of the things we do. Our courage forces us to fill voids in order to become stronger, and more resilient.

This is not what I have always been, but I accept it now, for you, and your life.
Just remember me for I choose to suffer for strangers; I chose to suffer for you.
Congratulations all!
