#underlit isn’t just a chat. It’s a creative community of people who like to discuss literature without the distraction everyday chit-chat. It’s also something of a think-tank, and intelligent conversation on any topic is welcome. Our regular folk tend to know what they’re talking about when it comes to lit, so feel free to drop by for a critique too, if you like. All you need do to become a member is hang out and demonstrate a genuine interest in literature (and not talk crap).

Keep an eye on *underlit in 2008 – we have some amazing things planned for the year.

MIMESIS POETRY JOURNAL

Mimesis is a recently established international poetry journal that is published quarterly. Small and big names rub shoulders in the magazine's glossy 6x9 production, and each issue features an interview with an established poet alongside around 50 pages of poetry and assorted illustrations.

SOUNDZINE

~Soundzine is a not-for-profit audio e-zine featuring quality poetry and prose, plays, interviews and music, as well as excellent fine art and photography. They have featured many artists and writers from deviantART.

~Soundzine is currently auditioning for in-house readers for prose, poetry and plays.

365Tomorrows

This project has been running three years now, and regularly features sci-fi flash-fic from deviantART members. The idea is to publish a short piece of science fiction every day of the year.

If you can write a good flash-fic of 600 words or less, you should read their submission guidelines and write something to submit!

A fun competition in honour of one of dA’s best-loved prosewriters, and in which you could win a 6-months subscription.

*salshep wants to know where you live! This competition is for prose and poetry, and asks you to write something that truly depicts the essence of the place where you live.

Poetry Is…

The first of *underlit’s planned community projects, Poetry Is… is seeking to gather definitions, opinions and perceptions of what poetry is and means to the deviantART literature community. Send a short paragraph in by note, if you have something to say! All comments are posted anonymously.

Whatever happened to Latin, anyway? ~ordie might be able to tell us.

If you’re a lover of old languages, take a look at this club. And it’s not only for officially “dead” languages, but those that are rare, and threatened with extinction. If you know or are interested in a dead/rare language this is the place to stop by.

Another project that’s catering to an underexposed group, *languageART is a project to bring to light the many wonderful works of calligraphy and typography around dA. Just browsing their favourites is a real treat. Keep an eye out for their competition!

*TranslationChain, *journalfav

*TranslationChain is a project to encourage multilingual folks to get together and have some fun, and an experiment in what happens when a text is passed through a ‘chain’ of different languages.

*journalfav is a response to the comment seen so many times around dA: “If only I could fave this journal!” Well, now you can. Send *journalfav a link to your favourite journal entries with a brief note about why you think it should be featured, and it will be!

#underlit Member’s Projects Feature: COMING SOON!



Prints For Poetry:

This project was run very successfully through #PoetRangers a while back. The idea is to provide a weekly prompt and a time limit within which to write a piece of prose or poetry, the best of which win a print.

It’s soon to be revived in conjuction with #underlit, so keep your eye out for news.
