Rottweilers - is this the face of a killer?

*JanaRey:iconJanaRey: reports, December 16, 2007
More news stories appearing of Rottweilers attacking people. Is it really a case of the Dog, the environment or the people that own them? Like people, dogs have different personalities. I wanted to feature some beautiful pictures I've come across of this beautiful docile breed that are often misunderstood, just like other breeds that are known for being "dangerous"

Thank you so much for featuring my dogs with these wonderful dogs! I agree that they are misunderstood and probably misjudged about their capabilities, too. That's what gets people into trouble... In all honesty my Rottweilers would probably lick someone to death before biting him/her. They're the sweetest dogs and oh-so-playful, too! I'd never get another breed after having these. :)

I hate it when people say how horrible a breed of dog is. Especially when it comes to pitbulls and rottweilers. They are all absolutely gorgeous dogs they were used back in the past for bad things, but that isn't what they are for now... Times have changed and they don't react the same.

It's too bad people are so close minded.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I personally prefer not to have one
around the little ones in my family.
My nephew adores dogs and doesn't
realize he could get bitten, so possibly
yes, any animal that large and with
power can be a killer.

I would put the life of a human before
the life of an animals..keep in mind I
love my pets but my loyalty lies with
family.

Numerous dog attacks have been
reported and the majority of them
in my area are from Pitt Bulls, not
Rottweilers. Chows are actually worse
and there have been more attacks from
that particular breed...

Any animal can bite if mistreated and provoked. Dogs reflect their environment and are usually devoted and loving if treated well.

Good article !!!

You are very welcome! I know I only have a cross breed, but he's definitely more rottie, he also would rather lick someone to death! He also runs up to greet visitors by standing up & trying to hug them! Personally, I'd never get a full bred, only because they have so many problems health wise, I'm sticking with cross breeds, but I wanted to do a post on the gentle side of these beautiful beasts. I know most people are aware, but they'll always be a minority who shy away from them for fear of incidents heard in the news.

If raised properly they're just big 'ole teddy bears. Rotties require a stronger leader than some other breeds but once dominance has been established (while they're still puppies) they are kind and gentle dogs.

Aww. I have a Rott and he's just plain retarded. :giggle: he's so cute and harmless.. the biggest baby ever. He's actually ran out of our house across the street to the park just to "play" with another dog he saw.. he get's so excited..but of course when you see a rottweiler charging for you and your poodle, you freak! ha ha.. He's just excited.

lol - retarded - I think many bred dogs have that distinguished personality. But yeah, they are harmless, I think it's mainly there size & sheer broad chests that frighten people. Because my Zeke is a cross, we have a lot of people coming up asking us why he looks different - d'oh!! Have had a lot of comments saying he looks softer in the face than a full bred, yes he does, but I love the way Rotties have those cute little eyebrows, they are so beautiful & full of expression. Zeke sounds a little like yours, he'll run up to any dog just to play, (except shepherds, he got attacked by one :( )

you're so right. They do need a strong leader, someone who will raise them properly. Our last Rottie & the half breed we have now both know the cats rule the roost!

thanks sweetie! Yes, any Dog will reflect their environment. I think Rotties get bad press because unfortunately there are incidents of a certain type of person acquiring them & using them because it makes them look good, strong, whatever, that's where the problem comes in. Same with any large breed of dog. Actually, any Dog come to think of it.
