reports, December 16, 2007Most everyone has seen an artist say, "You can be inspired by this, but you cannot take it." What is the difference? What IS Inspiration?
What is Inspiration? What is stealing?
Inspiration is the state of mind in which you want to and have ideas for something of your own from other things.
Stealing is when you take someone's picture and deface it, saying it is yours since you recolored it.
Can you give me an example?
My Character, Zaidon Chaster ( [link] [link] ) Looks like no other character that I've seen on dA. Hedgiepowa's Dark Xaider ( [link] [link] ) was my inspiration to create him.
They don't look alike, not at all. They're very ifferent- in fact, Xaider's entire story and Zaidon's have NOTHING in common except the fact that under control, Zaidon does the same as Xaider's title proclaims. You can't tell that Zaidon had ANYTHING to do with Xaider.
Poses can also be re-used. If you found a popse that was just great, and you drew it, but used your own character, then that's alright.
If you say, "Inspired by So-and-so's picture/character" (Filling in the person's character/picture), then you have no problems with it.
It all boils down to one fact: You can make characters off other characters as long as they don't look alike. Inspiration is great- but stealing is not! Be sure you know the difference!
