"A diptych (pronounced dip-tick) is a work in two panels which are connected. By tradition, both the panels and the subjects are connected; that is, the panels are hinged, and the two panels make up a single work. In photography, we call it a diptych when there are two panels and there is a strong relationship between the two subjects. Diptychs are simplifications of triptychs, which originated as religious art, with the center panel dominant."
