Weekly Help Desk Updates - December 21st, 2007
Introduction
Welcome to the weekly Help Desk news. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date information, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.
Help Desk Closure Dates
The Help Desk will be closed December 24th ad 25th in observation of Christmas and will reopen on the 26th.
We will also be closed on the 1st of January in observation of New Years and will reopen on the 2nd.
Should you have an emergency during our days of closure that is not Policy related, please contact
help@deviantart.com and we will be happy to assist you.
Hexe's Corner
This week I would like to remind users to please contact the
Help Desk directly when you are having trouble on the site as opposed to sending us notes or commenting on our userpage. By sending your inquiry to the Help Desk this will better help us to assist you, as we have information there that is not only readily available to us, but also help to keep track of your inquiries.
In other news this week, guides will be on hold while we focus our attention on getting all remaining user inquiries answered before the first Holiday Closure.
Ewm's Corner
Every once in awhile I receive an inquiry asking something along the lines of "how do I make the emoticon bar thing put emotes in my comments it doesn't appear to be working?" Occasionally there is some confusion between the
emoticons and
moods features. Both of these features use emoticon images, but each feature uses them differently.
The emoticon feature allows users to place emoticon images directly into their comments, journals, forum threads, and on dAmn. In order to do this you use codes that are provided in the emoticon legend found throughout the site. This legend is found under most commenting fields. When looking at the list you will see various images of the emotes with a code next to them which you use to create this emote. Do not forget the colons! For any emotes that have : on either side this is the most important part to make your emoticon work.
The mood feature is a way of displaying your current "mood" when posting a comment. This emote (only one) will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of your comment. The mood feature can be found in a column to the right of your "Devious Thoughts" comment box.

What is this thing called "deviantWATCH"?
This system is a way for you to keep track of multiple deviants and what they are submitting to deviantART. The deviantWATCH will alert you to new deviations, scraps, journals, polls and articles submitted by the deviants you're watching. Notifications can be found in your
message center.
To add a deviant to your deviantWATCH simply go to their userpage and click on the "Watch this Deviant" link. You can also use
Manage My Friends to manually add deviants to the list. The Manage my Friends link can be found in the right hand sidebar of your message center, under the "my account" section.
Make sure you do not include the little status symbol in front of the deviant's username if you wish to manually add them.
In here you can also choose which submissions you wish to be alerted to by checking/unchecking the boxes next to each option.
FAQ #67: What do all the check boxes in my deviantWATCH listing do?
To remove a deviant from your deviantWATCH go to the "Manage My Friends" link in your message center and click the corresponding 'remove' check box and hit update at the bottom of the page.
As always, if you have a question in regards to the deviantWATCH that isn't answered the
FAQ please contact us gals here at the
Help Desk and we'll get it answered as soon as possible.
Weekly Tip
deviantART would like to wish you all Happy and Safe Holidays and to remind you to please do not drink and drive as well as ride with anyone who has too much to drink.
