`GeneratingHype on letters, editing and GDship

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29
Adverbs are the endangered species of the adult fiction world. They're frowned on like putting a Baby Ruth bar in a punch bowl at a wedding reception -- not a good idea. They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

MASSIVE SECRET LIT COMP

~salshep:iconsalshep: reports, December 21, 2007
#underlit, in conjunction with *007-WriteOff are hosting a MASSIVE SECRET LIT COMP ,which is to be announced on January 10 (comp will commence Jan 15).

:community: :community: :community: :community: :community: :community:
This competition is open to ALL Lit categories ( Prose, Poetry and Visual Literature) and promises to be a lot of FUN.

 A special submission category is being created for it, thanks to $Moonbeam13 and ^FallenRox

:wtf: Anyways, the point of this news is:

:sun: WE NEED PRIZES!!! :sun:

We want this to be the MOST insanely huge, fun Lit competition ever, and a great way to kick off the New Year by inspiring some really great writing. So, here’s your chance to share something special with your fellow deviants, and donate to our prize pool.

It doesn’t have to be anything that costs money (we recognise that time is money, too!) though of course we’d be more than happy if you’d like to donate something like an Amazon voucher, sub or print (in fact, some more prints would be lovely).

We’re aiming for a really eclectic mix of prizes, anything people are willing to give, at all. Prints are pretty inexpensive if you donate from your own gallery. But also, your time for a crit or a poem-as-a-prize, or a piece of commission art, or a stamp, or a nifty devID design, or custom journal CSS, a hand-knitted woolly hat, your firstborn child— anything you can possibly throw our way would be neat.

:flirty: Please submit your offer in the comments below. :flirty:

Our GIANT SEXY PRIZE POOL OF deviantART LOVE is being listed and updated daily in THIS HERE JOURNAL.

We only ask that it’s something people might actually want (used teabags are nice and all… but you know).

:sun: So far we have gratefully recieved::sun:

:bulletblue: A custom-designed 11oz mug OR an original piece of art (may or may not contain traces of tentacles) : *salshep

:bulletblue: A personalised mini-comic, mailed directly to YOU and starring YOU, along with a nice letter and maybe a chance to strike up correspondence (trust me, Phill is not a pervy lunatic. Well, not if it isn't a full moon) : *apocathary

:bulletblue: A journal stamp, and a postcard from Wales with a real stamp on it : =bewareofthesnowman

:bulletblue: A 1-year sub : from a mysteriously enigmatic anonymous person or persons unknown, whose identity will remain top secret. And no, I'm not telling.

:bulletblue: 1 year sub + winner featured as a character in a 365Tomorrows story : =SRSmith

:bulletblue: The naming of a cute lil baby kitten : ^PoeticWar

Anyhow, it's going to be a fantastic and fun comp for ALL lit people and we really hope to have a great prize pool to help motivate folk to get creative.

 PLUS, I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER.

(or avoid you ttly, whichever floats your boat )

Thx. :)

PS: Don’t ask me for comp details here, all will be revealed in just a few days!

Ok, I'm adding to my offer an original photo of members of the black metal band Mayhem, with notes from Dead on the back. This was sent to me from Dead himself, and is a highly collectable artifact of metal history, as well as a precious keepsake from my old friend. But I have quite a few of these pics, and thought it might be cool to let one go.
