His real name is Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark. Created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963).
Iron Man possesses powered armor that gives him superhuman strength and durability, flight, and an array of weapons. The armor is very durable, capable of withstanding lots of damage. It also enables Iron Man to fly at high speeds, exceeding the speed of a jet airplane, due to the rocket propelled boots that are placed on the bottom of the armor's feet. The weapons systems of the suit have evolved over the years, but Iron Man's standard offensive weapons have always been the repulsor rays that are fired from the palms of his gauntlets.*
