Well, here we are, 2008! It's a whole new year, with whole new hopes and adventures on the horizon! That time when people look to start getting healthier, start better habits, start new relationships, etc . . .

. . . so maybe it's a little comical that we feature during this time of beginnings a series that focuses on, well, endings.

Welcome to Death Note, the Japanese comic, then films, then cartoon, and soon another film, about a young man who discovers a book that brings death to anyone who has their name written in it. He uses this notebook to kill off criminals (And anyone else who gets in his way.) and soon finds himself in a mental cat-and-mouse game with the police, the press, and an offbeat superdetective known only as "L".

It's become a big hit among anime/manga fans, and has even found some popularity among people who typically avoid Japanese comics. This creates a lovely little ecosystem of fanworks - which we feature, now, in Hidden Gems of Fan Art. :]
